Ibizia or Cupra 1.9TDI?

Hey all new here, Currently drive a 306 GTI-6 175bhp but feel the need to change for a diesel. I'm pretty use to higher performace cars so not looking to go for something to slow so will be looking at Mk4 Ibiza's or MK1 Cupra I think it is.

So to the questions, The 1.9 engine the same in both Curpa and Ibiza TDI's? (1.9)

Any common problems to look out for?

I notice a lot for sale seem to have fairly high mileage, is this a problem or do these cars keep going on and on?

What power can be expected with the correct supporting mods, fmic etc. ?

Whats the average MPG on these?

I'll have around 3 - 4k to spend in a few months hopefully so hopefully I can get a fairly decent one for that, even if it has higher mileage!

Cheers

Rich.

From what i read and am told the VAG cars tend to go on and on, depending on whether they have been looked after ie. serviced regularly etc. However, can't give you much info on these cars 'cause i only have a feeble 1.2 ;) Reading on here quite a few people reach high 40-mid 50's in mpg, i think. But you'd have to wait for them to reply as i know nothing :cartman:

Welcome by the way :)

There are v8's that will get better than 18mpg..... Something not right there methinks.

The leon cupra tdi is 150bhp and the ibiza cupra tdi is 160bhp, but its the same VW pd150 engine, the ibiza is lighter and has a closer ratio gearbox so is faster. I get between 45 and 50mpg on my commute, 55,pg on a motorway run, and about 30-40 mpg when hammering it. The ibiza cupra also comes with AP racing brakes as standard, 312mm discs, 4 piston calipers, they are pretty damn good.

Build quality is ok, but there are niggles with build quality. But the engine, drive train etc all seem solid. full service history is essential.

All specs for seats...

The ibiza cupra tdi's are pretty rare, they were £1000 more than the petrol when new, quite an expensive car.

You will find alot of pd130 ibizas, thats the FR and before that they were badged as sport, not as quick as cupra, but costs are alot lower, insurance etc.

Thats pretty good 310lb of torque! what mpg does it return at that and what pd is yours?
What do these diesel engines sound like, barable on long drives?

Excellent I seem to see a lot of the pd110's what are they like when compared to the 130/150's? I'm not looking for a car that was as fast as my old Starlet GT Turbo and not really expecting too much from a diesel engine I guess just want something that allows me to pull out in small gaps, fun to drive, good mpg etc.

Thanks btw guys, very helpful indeed.

Only driven the pd130 and the pd150 (160)

I would try test driving them tbh. The petrols are cheaper to buy too, so if you dont do alot of miles it might make more sense to get one of those.

Hmm that could be an idea, I'll deffo have to try and get a test drive in a few!, the 1.8 20vt a good choice, or more hassle than the diesel etc? I'm basically looking for an all round car and obviously needs to be reliable had enough of un-reliable cars lol! Obviously I'll make sure there serviced at regular intervals!

Sweet sounds good to me :) do exhaust sound nice on diesels ? never in my life heard a diesel with an exhaust on! I really should get a diesel to save a bit of pennys as I say I get 18 Mpg on my 175 bhp GTI-6 which really isnt good lol.

Cheers for that buddy, Deffo looking at a 1.9 TDI weather it's a 110 or 130 I'm not sure as of yet, I'm sure a remap and a few mods and it'll go pretty well - These pass MOT with a decat or isit a case of removing and refitting the cat for mot's etc? I'm use to older cars where they didnt need a cat for mot!

think you should go for a 130 over a 110 really

as for mots no you dont need a cat on them

with a 110 think you can only get round 155bhp with a remap may be wrong

Just registered so this is my first post here.

I'm new to SEAT ownership (In fact I don't quite own one yet) but yesterday I went out for a test drive in an Ibiza FR (130TDi) and fell in love immediately. So I've put down a deposit and pick it up next Saturday.

I wanted to post a pic but can't 'till I've made 15 posts.

Although I'm not as accustomed to performance hatch ownership as the lingl9z I do think that you wont be disappointed with it.
I managed to get the dealer down to £8145 for the one above with a part ex of £150 for my rusty old '94 Civic LSi with 90,000 miles on the clock and a missfire.

The Ibiza has got 20,800 miles on the clock and from the reserch I've done, it returns 50MPG's easily, it's in insurance group 8 (which is cheaper than my old Civic) and the performance figures are pretty impressive as standard @ 128Bhp with 229lb ft Torque.

Now I can't wait till next Saturday when I collect the car, begin enjoying ownership of my lil' Ibiza and becomin a part of the community here.
