Sorry if this has been answered before, had a little search but i didnt really find a clear answer.

so i've fitted an induction kit onto my 2.0 tdi FR, not a full one, just from the maf sensor down. i didnt fit it for performance gains i fitted it purely for noise.

disconnected the battery, fitted it, reconnected, let the car idle for about 15 minutes then went and drove it in. hasnt felt too bad but im now about 350 miles into using the induction kit now and its starting to jerk more often than not at low revs, some of them this morning were very jolty!

mpg before the induction kit was fitted, for my 150 miles i do for work and back in a week i would get about 52mpg, first week of using the induction kit about 49mpg and now its gone down to about 45mpg, along side the jerking and jolting, is their a problem?

debating whether to disconnect the battery again and reset the ecu to try and recalibrate the engine to suit the new air intake.

any help or advice would be appreciated :)

Are you sure you've fitted it correctly ie no gaps in it? Is the MAF fitted in properly?

Sorry mate i didnt explain properly, the induction kit is fitted just after the maf, so the maf and all its original housing are untouched, after the maf its a small silicone piece with a 90 degree bend into a filter, all jubilee clips are nice and tight so i should imagine their's no gap.

Have you fitted the smaller gasket in the egr valve?

Yeah, my 140 passat done the same when I fitted the induction kit so when I bought my leon both parts were transferred to the leon. Worth a shot as it's only about £2.

sweet sounds good, you wouldnt happen to have any links to the direct part, ebay only has the standard open gasket.

I had a k&n cone filter on a tdi and after a while it killed 2 mafs.
Decided to take it off as it just wasnt worth the ballache.

Will do mate, starting to think that maybe a bit of rain was getting onto the cone as i fitted a air duct from my fog light up to the cone over the weekend and yesterday morning was the first time it had been driven while it was raining with the duct fitted.

drove home last night when it wasn't raining and their was no jerking, slight tiny jerks here and their, but hardly noticeable, nothing like the bad ones yesterday morning and driving to work this morning was fine.

putting 2 and 2 together with the mpg, fitting the duct i guess is supplying the car with cold air constantly which is good for response and power but bad for mpg so i guess everything is answering itself.

right so over the weekend i fitted the small hole egr gasket and cleaned out the maf sensor, car has definitely felt a lot smoother and i did my first work run this morning and i was very impressed, it felt so effortless and smooth to drive and my mpg has gone back up to the over 50 mark including me booting it a couple of times, obviously i cant say which one individually worked but both the small hole gasket and the maf clean has helped the car.

just waiting on a wet drive home now to see if the water was causing the extreme jerking, if so the cold air feed is going!

Be surprised if rain drops were defying gravity and somehow making the journey upwards through your cold feed, through the gap between the end of the feed and your filter, then through your filter, up the pipework to the MAF - but you never know! :)

My old HDi did exactly the same on cold wet mornings and it was all to do with the damaged MAF which had to be changed rather than cleaned.

Hopefully by the sounds of it you should be able to get away with giving it a clean next time it plays up if all goes well on the next cold wet start.
