Key battery prompt

Hi guys,

I changed my key battery for my14 fr 6 months ago, got a Duracell battery, got prompt yesterday to say change key battery, so whilst waiting to go out and get one I started using my spare key which hasn’t been used since new, that now has the same error showing when I stick the ignition on.
Could it be just sheer coincidence that a battery only last 6 months and my spare on had gone weak too- or could there be underlying issue.

Any advice or similar experiences?

Thanks

The Duracell might be faulty/fake and your spare had probably died of old age.

Don't look for conspiracy where coincidence will do instead.

Same thing happen to myself and another member just recently.

Reckon there is a drain on the battery even when key is not in use.

Sometimes the prompt seems to come up when it shouldn't. Mine came up when we returned from holiday, but after a couple of days it disappeared and hasn't reappeared since.

It's a common problem, the battery will be fine and won't need replacing yet. Looking at past posts this seems to get reported more in the winter months... could be something to do with that

Mine has been telling me to replace the battery for at least a year, yet still works fine from long distances so it obviously isn't as low as it thinks!
