the k04-001 is bascially a k03s, but the k04-023/4 is capable of more power

k04-001 is pretty much a k03s and is direct fit apart from the tip like a k03s and will make very similar power. The k03s replaced the k04-001 in newer cars. Its not worth anymore money than a k03s imo.

k04-023 is the k04 you get on 225bhp cars such as the LCR, TT, S3 and will make a good 270bhp+ and lots of torque but isnt direct fit at all and is alot more work.

No you use the same as you use with a k03s. The k04-001 is not what comes on a LCR, its not what people are talking about when they say k04. Its basically an old k03s.

so the forge one i have on my ko3 will fit no probs then

would the ko4-001 produce a bit tiny bit more than a ko3s would...bhp wise

why dont you save up all the bits needed and go straight to ko4?!

I've had my ko3s on 2months now and i do love it, but crave more power, i may go down this route in a few months. And its something abit different to doing ko3s, which has been done to death, for good reason though, fairly cheap and straight forward way to get more bhp for your money

Just my 2p

Some people say so but its no bigger than a k03s and was replaced by the k03s so I dont think it really will see any gains over oe tbh. There was a big thing about it beofre when a couple of people got them saying they would get a real 260bhp etc and then you heard nothing after they had them fitted etc so I think that says it all. Better off either just getting a k03s or getting a k03s hybrid. The k04-001 is a waste of time imo.

Yeah i agree that a ko4-001 would be a waste of time, but a k04-023 in a light mk3 would go like stink!

Im so tempted to do this, got all the stage 2 mods, so i would need, new injectors, 3' maf, new TIP, new mani, not sure if my BF downpipe would fit, new oil and water lines and i think thats it

So would that give a true 260/270 bhp map dependant?

You would need:

225cc Injectors
3inch maf
Air filter to suit 3inch maf
k04 tip
k04-023 turbo
Oil and Water lines for K04 (One needs to be custom/adjusted)
Exhaust manifold for k04
Custom or adjusted Qpeng manifold for k04
Silicone connector for k04 outlet to charge pipe
Possibly k04 charge pipe (cant remember if this is needed or was just a nicety)
And then a remap to suit

Much more worth doing than a k04-001 but I think you could get a hybrid k03s to a true 260/270bhp for less money as it keeps the same water and oil lines, downpipe, tip etc and doesnt need any custom parts. Its not a simple bolt on job from what I was told.

k04-001's going on ebay for around the £330 mark plus £30 postage and according to the seller they are genuine turbo's not chinese import tat, so if its was me i would rather spend £360 on a brand new k04-001 the £250 on a used k03s which is usually what they go for

Ebay has no comeback if its screwed, not a copy or goes pop in 3k miles. If I was buying new it would be from a reputable seller like Backdraft. To be honest a used k03s is no biggy as long as its in good condition anyway.
