LED Headlights

Hey guys,

I fit LED sidelights and Phillips white bulbs and I'm now thinking of putting the phillips bulbs in the fog lamps as they aren't white enough and fitting some LED headlights as the technology has come a long way since the last time I got some (wouldn't be able to find a cow at night if you were surrounded by them).

I've found these that look alright and a good alternative to HIDs: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...ue&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A1MU19CE87V8XU

Now my worries are:

* Legalities of fitting them
* Dazzling on coming drivers at 7000lm!
* Not being as bright as advertised, however at £65 a pop they should be!
* 6000k being too blue to pass MOT.

If anyone has looked into this before or has a similar set installed, your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard the LED headlight kits aren't quite there yet, kinda like HID's were a few years back.

There are probably a few decent kits out there, but you might need to do some research to identify the good ones from the bad ones.

I have bought cree led bulbs for my side lights and fog lights they are the best looking things you can buy, I had led headlights for a month but the over bumps and the road camber it was a bit jumpy I'd definitely go for Hids if you go 6k there is not mot problems neither is there when you use led fog or side lights, but cree led is definitely the best they are bright as hell I can literally drive with just side and fogs on there that bright

They do look amazing! I'm not a big fan of HID's. The light doesn't spread very well and they take ages to warm up. They are also extremely overpriced compared to LED's.

Do you have a link to the ones you've got in your fog lamps?

Not many people understand HIDs entirely. There are 2 different makes of HID. One set specifically for projector style headlights (the ones with the glass ball) which are the standard HID kits, and the set specifically for reflector style headlights. The ones for reflectors are purely called your bulb size followed by an r. So, for example - H7R HID kit.

The only noticeable difference between them is the fact that the reflector HIDs have a reflective tape around them in a specific place to make sure the light isn't scattered, thus blinding oncoming drivers. I can't post links, still, but if you search for H7R in google images there's pictures of the 2 different bulbs next to each other for reference.

I had H7R's in my Ibiza FR, they were fantastic and I was never flashed at. I did a test and followed my mate home with my standard HID kit and he moaned about how bright they were so I asked to follow him after fitting the H7R's and he said they were like a normal car behind him just with more white/blue lights.

Hope this helps you out a bit.

Good to see someone else has done their homework on bulbs, I'm one of those guys who used to have any HID kit in my cars until I finally saw the H7Rs.

I've now turned into one of those guys who moans about people with the wrong style bulbs I'd never flash someone for their lights though, that's dangerous and could cause an accident.

I'm big on my bulbs tbh I think every bulb on my car has been changed, I had standard h7 hids for a week and the light spread was awful so research is key and there so much in this forum to help with led, cree led, hids, reverse bulb it's really good

Thanks for your help guys.

I'll do more research with what you guys have given me. I've started really looking into lights with this car because the standard bulbs are so piss poor isn't not even funny. It was like a couple of candles in my headlight!!!

I was exactly the same until I bought my new leon with those snazzy lights they've got on them. Not sure whether they're LED or what, but they're exceptionally good for OEM lights and I won't be changing them any time soon. I will say though that the reverse bulb may be upgraded to a CREE LED just to be safe, even though I shouldn't crash with my parking sensors, anything could happen!

As BF95 has already said, CREE LEDs (they're W5Ws if I remember) are exceptionally bright and worth spending money on, H7Rs for the mains, pretty sure that full beam and fogs are both H3, but it has been a year since I had my FR Ibiza so someone may correct me.
