Hi Guys

Looking at buying a Leon FR+ 170 CR TDI

Car is on a 61 reg but it's done almost 57k miles, looked at the service book and its been serviced at a Nissan dealer all it's like and looks like it's got 5 stamps, I've been told it's probably due a cambelt by a mate.

Anything else I should look out for?

I've also been considering the A3 170 or the Golf 170, but this is the cheaper option, are the engines the same?

Also reading up on here people seem to be getting 45ish MPG, when the book says 55mpg combined? this is a huge factor as I driver 120 miles a day.

Thanks

Hi Jason, Yes they are the same mate I'm sure will also share a lot of other parts. When I had my FR was able to get 50-55 mpg on a run to work that is a 35 mile journey with mixed town A roads and duel carriageway. Obviously to achieve this I'd have to drive her sensibly and not giving heavy right foot everywhere.

Hope this helps in your choice pal

You should get 450-550 miles per tank depending how you drive it. If I was doing 120 miles a day I'd want a 1.6 diesel for even better mpg etc.

I kinda want something with a bit of performance though.

I was hoping 55mpg, which is roughly 550-600 per tank.

I'd be happy with that.

Also I have been told cambelt needs doing, it is a main dealer garage but it's not a SEAT, are all cambelt changes relatively simple? also what is the service interval? seems like people saying 40k, 60k or 120k or 4 years.

I dont think the cambelts to big a job. If it needs changing I would be asking for it to be done as part of the sale.

I think for the CR they're 60k or every 4 years? Someone will correct me if I'm wrong though.

You'd have to drive the FR very conservative to get that sort of MPG regularly.

I have the pre-facelift (PD170) and rarely see above 43-44 mpg.

Timing belt change on these are a bit of a grey area on which interval they are on.
When I bought my wife's cr170 last year registered April 2010 I contacted Seat UK.
I was told that depending on chassis number but her car was 5 years or 120k
I'm changing it in the next month or so at 60k

Why is there such a grey area?

It seems like the car had had like 5 stamps in the service book though and it's sat on 57k

is that nothing for a diesel or is this when it starts to get expensive?

Hard to say really depends what kind of life it has had if looked after should be fine but if abussed can image problems occurring much sooner than they should.

Also better to get the belt done to put your mind at rest mate

I had a 59 plate golf gtd cr170 and it was a terrible car and only had 30k on.
My wife's 10 plate FR cr170 now with 58k on is twice the car the golf would ever of been.
Goes to show that low mileage isn't always best and the each car judged on condition and how it drives.

I am sure the service intervals are 120k for the CEGA engines. This is what the manual States anyway lol but would be better changer sooner rather than later. Watch out for water ingress at bonnet between plastic panel and bonnet. Under bonnet sound deadening will be mouldy if water is getting in.

How much did you pay out of interest?

My mate with an Audi 170 same engine seems to be getting 500-600 miles a tank. Is this feasible?

I don't think it's the kind of car you buy to do 600 miles a tank in.. maybe a non-sport hatch. You can't own one of these without having a play once in a while which then makes 600 impossible :D 500 is a decent number which you'll get most times.

Average about 500/520 a tank if driving sensible and having fun here and there.... 450/480 if booting it.

Not far off 12,000.00.
