Major service (24months) but only 5800 miles on the clock

Under 6000 miles from new and only 2000 miles in the last year. I know oil & filter changes is essential but new plugs & air filter seems like an unnecessary expense given the low mileage.

However, I assume not doing the major service would invalidate the remaining warranty, and the extended warranty beyond year 3.

Also worried the dealership might charge for the major service but not bother to actually replace the plugs & filter.

Tell em to poke it and that you just want the minor service. It’s cos it’s 2 years old for some reason they charge more just for shits and gigs.

Milton Keynes seat tried the same thing, I asked them to list the difference between a two year service and a minor service... guess what no different other than £50.

Are you saying that that car is now 2 years old, and so has had 1 minor and now ready for its first major service, if so, I can't see any main dealer replacing the plugs, with normal mileage plugs and air filter will not get changed until the 2nd major service at 4 years - unless you exceed the accompanying mileage limit, which it sounds that you will not.

Replacing plugs and air filter on modern VW Group every 2 years is only as far as I know, their cynical approach used for people buying VW Group cars from outside the sales/service network and then taking them into the VW Group service network for all servicing.

Edit:- while year 1 service is mainly just oil and filter and a quick look>see, later services, or at least major services should involve a bit more tyre kicking etc as well as more parts being replaced as the car gets older.

Pollen filter will be replaced probably at year 2 service unless you say "no" when booking it in - and that will not affect your warranty, maybe consider sourcing a Mann Frecious version when you want to replace the pollen filter as they are a better version of the VW Group branded Mann filter in your car, so you will end up getting a proper pollen filter for the price that VW Group want to sell you the basic one and from the same manufacturer.

I was going by the official servicing regime the states plugs & air filter every 2 years. If it turns out there's some mileage related flexibility on that then I'll get it confirmed in writing to avoid any 'get-out' on a future warranty claim.

The latest Haynes for the petrol Ibiza cars states 40000 miles or 4 years for spark plug changes. This is consistent with other spark plug change intervals I've found online for current VW group cars. Euro Car Parts don't even offer spark plugs for the 1.5 TSI yet.

I can't quote the hard copy or online service book as I don't have them.

It’s not really minor/major, as there is so much time/mileage based out of phase maintenance; furthermore, it makes the variable servicing pointless on MQB platform cars after 2 years / 30k km.
