Programming 8-Way Power Seats With Memory

If you have a brand new Volkswagen from the factory or your battery dies or your engine control module becomes disconnected you must initialize the seats before setting the memory

  • Put key in ignition and turn the ignition on (Engine does not need to be running)

From the outside the vehicle, use the lower seat cushion button to move the seat all the way forward. Once it stops hit the button again to make sure seat is all the way forward.

Use the lower seat cushion button to move the seat up towards the roof. Once it stops, press the button again to make sure seat Is all the way up

Use the backrest button to move the seat forward towards the steering wheel. Once it stops hit the button again to make sure the seat is all the way forward.

You are now ready for programming.

Programming the seats and mirrors

  • Put key in ignition and turn the ignition on. (Engine does not need to be running).

Make sure the square red “mem off” button is pressed in!

Put primary driver in the seat and close doors so that he/she can adjust the seat and outside mirrors to desired position.

Once set to desired location1 hold down the number 1 seating assignment button for 3 seconds until you hear a faint “beep”.

Now the seats are set and you can program that key with that driver so the remote is programmed.

Programming the remote to work with seats/memory

  • Key is still in ignition (which is on) since you last programmed the memory.

Hold down the number 1 seating button.

While holding down the number 1 seating button take the key out of the ignition. You now have 10 seconds to hold down the unlock button on the remote. Hold for 3 seconds. (Note: keep holding down number 1) You will hear a faint “beep telling you that the remote Is now set.

To test remote: Move seat from set position. Get out of car and lock car with remote. Now unlock car and open the driver’s door. If the seat moves back to memory position after you opened the door then the memory is set.

To program additional drivers

  • Skip initializing process and move directly to programming the seat and mirrors. Use the other remote so that you can program the new remote for the second driver. Instead of using the number 1 button choose number 2.

Troubleshooting

If after you initialize the seats and then program them and you do not hear a “beep”...

  • Make sure the “mem” button is pressed In. If it is out, the memory cannot be set.

Try to initialize again. This time not only should you move seat forward up and backrest forward. You should move the seat all the way forward and all the way back. Move the seat all the way up and all the way down.

Move the backrest all the way forward and all the way back, Now try to set the seats.
Remember, the memory is programmed with the ignition switch on, and operated with the ignition switch off.
