Couldn't believe it this morning ....

Dash read -7.0 :-o

Luckily I had put a towel on my windscreen and side windows the night before. Took them off and it was crystal clear.

Then I realised I was driving a f:censored:ing diesel. These blooming things just DON'T WARM UP :(

It's the only thing I dont like about my car.

So after 20mins sitting with the revs at 2k and the car finally warmed up I tried to used my wipers. Jets totally frozen. Windscreen wipers wrecked the screen. Couldn't see a thing.

Driving down to Brum couldnt see a thing as my jets were blocked all the way down.

So. I NEEEEEEED some help. Im pretty sure the weather is going to get better now, but if this thing happens again it's mega scary.

So im after some help. Help with retro fitting these heated washer jets I have sitting in my cupboard.

I managed to remove the jets without taking the plastic trim off, just as a quick exercide to see how hard it would be to remove them. But I WILL have to remove it to do the wiring.

Basically I have a few questions. (web/thread links would be kool)

1. How do I remove and re-fit the plastic trim at the bottom of the windscreen, without cracking the glass?

2. How can I get the VERY short cables from the jets to the dash? Does anyone know if there is a hole in the bulk-head at the top near the middle of the dash behind the dash?

3. I have spare hols in my "heater" button on my dash, does anyone know if I can link the jest to this? Plus do I need to put an inline fuse in the mix?

ANY info would be greatly appreciated. When I get it done I will be taking lots of photo's and posting up a "How To"....

Lil' help? :cheeky:

Cheers for your help babe ;)

Apparently tomorrow is going to be better as it will be warmer (-1) but there will be sleet/snow which will also take the temp up.

Weird thing was there was no * symbol on the car dash this morning? Weird.

Anyway.... Can anyone answer any of my questions? Please?

Were the heated jets ever fitted as an option to the Leon when yours was made ?

If so there may be a dedicated connection for them somewhere that is automatically switched (maybe when heated screen is on...). That would save you having to fit an extra switch.

Yup... these are specific for the Leon. They fit them in Europe. It's a little colder in Switserland and Norway that it is here ;) they also do heated front windscreens for them apparently, but they are impossible to get :(

In the back of my "heated" switch (for mirrors and rear screen) there are two slots in the same shape as the connectors I got with the jets.. but the cables are SO short :(

Just asked Dave at IMG warrington if he can help me out as he sold them to me in the first place.... Hope he can help...

1. How do I remove and re-fit the plastic trim at the bottom of the windscreen, without cracking the glass?

Let's see if i can help:

0.- Mark with duct tape the position of the windscreen cleaners in the windscreen, so when you mount them again they will be at that position and you will not clear the air.

1.- Remove the windscreen cleaners, remove the little plastic tap they have and then there is a nut than you can unscrew. With the nut removed get the cleaners out (if its the first time it will be really hard as they sit in a conical piece) closing the boot and raising the cleaners (putting them perpendicular) make it easier.

2.- Open the boot, remove the rubber band that goes side to side in the lower part of the plastic trim

3.- With a flat screwdriver love and tenderness, introduce it through the gap between the windscreen and the plastic trim, and proceed along the whole windscreen (you should hear it "poping"). Beware that when you introduce the screwdriver do not introduce it in the windscreen seal that is below the plastic trim, only in the plastic trim (you will see this clearly just by looking at it). When this is done, just pull the trim gently (as the washers tube will not allow you to remove it completely, but you can move it about 10cm enough to disconnect the tube).

4.- Be careful when putting the trim again, as you can see at the left side there is the aircon filter, the rubber that goes above it must be in the same position as it was or water will come in through the passenger seat when it rains. Yes, i say this from my own experience

Invert the process to install it again, being carefull when "re-poping" the trim at the windscreen union, do not use excesssive force or the windscreen may crack, no hammers allowed :D

Sorry for my english, i hope that that helps you.

Just wrapping them in insulation? Suppose it would be a good idea.

I think -7 is a bit of a freak... and the £126 for the "HotShot" is a little OTT.

cant harm (as far as i can see lol)

-7 (i got -9 this morning and just gave up on squirters lol) sint gonna happen often but if seat did a SIMPLE retro fit heated jets kit for the ibiza or fitted it cheap id still get it done

wtf is hotshot?

Anyone got any idea how much current these jets will draw?
I wouldn't have thought that it'd be masses tbh, but i'd guess you've got to either wire them into a new switch, or (preferably if possible) get them wired into the heated rear screen switch. And if I was going to try and do that, I think i'd link them into the heated mirror wiring somehow surely that shouldnt' be too tricky...

May look at it this weekend. I have the use of a lock up, so it would be a 'little' warmer. I will take the owd digital with me if I do decide to have a go, just in case it all works out.

Price? including p&p £37.50 from IMG. Dave still wont give me the wiring diagrams though :( Might be worth asking somone else if they could provide the parts AND a diagram for £40 ;)
