mmmmmm EVO

I think this progresses to the next level really as far as performance goes - guess you may keep up in a straight line but think you'd get left far behind round the bends. The spoiler makes a good picnic bench on these though :roflmao:

Nope not a chance all the evos are mid to low 13 secs quarter mile. Comparitivly cheap to tune to. I've read you can get 550 horses out of the evo 8 for just under 4K. You are paying over 10G more for the car though.

No. Not a chance. Unmodified they will still have the legs on even a chipped cupra r until you're seriously motoring - when the leon *might* be able to hold it's own (but what's the point by then?).

The earlier evos are even lighter than the later ones, IIRC. So theres a significant PWR advantage over the LCR.

Look at it this way, at least we don't have 4500 mile servicing intervals and 15mpg fuel consumption (trying to make the best out of a bad situation ;) )

The earlier evos started at less than 276 they were then increased 10 bhp with each new model not sure what they started at or which evo hit 276 thou.
A mate in work has an FQ 300 tuned to around 380. He did say he might go for the 550 upgrade for 4K :-o

I went round there doing about 65 which wasnt that quick really, still finding my way, and this guy just hammers it in, and does about 80 plus with his doors parralel to the direction of the track :p

4 wheel drift is so cool :worship:

The Evo performance figures vary massively depending on where you read them.
The numbers I have, which 'were' official figures are:

Evo 6 - 0-60 in 4.3 seconds
Evo 7 - 0-60 in 4.8 seconds
Evo 8 - 0-60 in 5.1 seconds.

The Evos are getting heavier and slower to 60!

Nope not a chance all the evos are mid to low 13 secs quarter mile. Comparitivly cheap to tune to. I've read you can get 550 horses out of the evo 8 for just under 4K. You are paying over 10G more for the car though.

Not from what I've seen they're not. The Extreme package to take a 280bhp Evo 6 GSR upto 350bhp was over 10k!!! Most stuff from HKS, Blitz, Greddy and other Jap tuning companies seems really expensive too.

Cheers
Ben

Against the early ones its basically the same as being up against an equivilant import scoob - ie a std LCR will be beaten but a chipped one will keep up on a rolling start (damn those transmission losses!)

In the corners however the evo should blow the LCR away really (dependent on driver skill of course), as for the FQ3xx series they are a big step up from the LCR and most scoobs (only the T25, Spec C, and WR1 can really take them on and hope to win)

I'll admit this is all 2nd hand info and seeing them driven as I've yet to drive an evo (I refused to since all the ones I wanted were out of my price range and I didnt want to risk falling in love with one!)

I have a work colleague with an FQ330, with a boost controller on it.

He had it rolling roaded at 346bhp, and that was a little down on boost, only running 1.39 bar, when it could go up to 1.45 bar, so he might be looking at 350+ on full boost :-o

To say these things are quick is the understatement of the year. 0-60 in around 4 secs, holding off a new 911 on the *ahem* private road.

The cornering is unbelievable. It gives new meaning to "on rails". And with Brembos all round, it stops on a sixpence !!! :worship:

I just don't like the 4500 mile service intervals, or else I would gladly accept one tomorrow !

As the owner of a Cupra tdi (admittedly not the same as a chipped LCR) and modified Evo 6 :) both straight line performance and handling of the Evo is in a different league - which you would expect as the officially imported 6's were almost exactly double the price of the Cupra, especially as Mitsubishi did'nt spend the difference on the interior! However these days you can buy a nicely modded 6 for around the price of a new Cupra, although the running costs are a bit different!

Modifying them is somewhere between the 2 estimates above. Around £3K gets you Stage 1 mods approx 330-340 bhp and £4K+ to get over 350 bhp. That's before you do anything to the suspension or brakes - a good idea if you're really going to explore the extra performance!

Motorway perfomance is pretty similar - both will cruise at well over the legal limit (on a private motorway of course!!) but approx 18 mpg plays 40 odd mpg!

One thing about the Cupra - you quickly find the handling limits. It's so fecking quiet after the Evo you keep arriving at corners rather faster than you planned :D

BTW to achieve the kind of 0-60 times indicated in earlier posts on a regular basis would involve fairly frequent new clutches and possibly even more expensive bits of the transmission! :D
