Mk3 FL Side Blades

I had some of the OEM Seat side blades fitted prior to collection; however, they have been painted in body colour only. I was under the impression that the end caps (towards the rear) were black to match the wing mirror caps (on the Cupra).

The dealer has apologised and offered to put it right, but I have a couple of questions:

Are everyone else’s black? (await sarcastic comment from those with a black cars)

Does anyone know if the caps have a separate OEM part number? This will make it easier to be painted away from the car, if I can just get some spares ordered and painted/wrapped.

Hi mate.

I saw a Mystery Blue ST Copra at the dealer last weekend and they had also been painted all blue and thought exactly the same as you and googled a few pictures when home. I would definitely get them redone black.

It could have been my car that you have seen then...

Its getting ceramic coated today, so a bit of a pain to be honest. If they ceramic coat the tips then the black paint will not adhere too well.

Don't know about OEM ...but the originals ones ,which I had fitted ,( they were included at the performance pack ) the rear end is removable so you can paint it at any colour you really want .....
As you I painted all in body colour by choose as my car is the FR not the cupra ...and thought that won't look nice as there is no other black trim e.g the mirrors as you mentioned ..

Looked really good, the first one I had seen with the copper. Congratulations. It was all safe and sound round the back, the dealer took me round to have a look.

They have an Eclipse Orange ST pre Copra at the moment as well.

To be honest, I can live with the copper...

It’s not as bad as I originally thought, and the badge on the steering wheel has a ‘smoked’ matt copper finish so doesn’t stand out. Grille and boot I can live with (for now). Only place it looks odd is on the wheel trims.

Yes looks good the wheel caps weren't on, and the car was stil partially wrapped.

I was trying to decide on colour will be blue or white.

I originally wanted the urban silver, but was out voted 3:1 by the rest of the family...

I got to choose the car and options though!

The black tips were the only reason I was debating the blades over the full skirts.

Didn't realize that they were caps.

I've seen a few painted all the same colour, but the black tips definitely work on the CUPRA with all it's contrasting black accents i.e grill, spoiler, rims and pan roof if selected.

I asked if they could paint the black tips on the full skirts and they said they couldn't. Told me to get the area wrapped.

Finally had the quote in from the body shop to paint the tips black...

Wait for it £1000 +VAT!

Urine extraction... apparently the only way they can guarantee a perfect job is to replace both of the side blades and paint new ones prior to fitment to the car.

And to top it off, the VAG approved body shop have scratched the clear coat on one of the blades wiping the dirt and grit with their thumb whilst checking the paint colour.

That's ridiculous. The price of the side blades plus fitting in the brochure came under £500 (or at least they did in February when I got quotes) all inclusive of VAT..

On the system it was cheaper still.

Paint was extra, but at the dealers discretion

That must be a serious paint job they're offering...

I'm guessing this was a **** up in the first place? Don't you have a case for free correction?

I will not be paying for it; however, supplying dealer is 300 miles away, hence having to use local VAG approved body shop.

However, I very much doubt supplying dealer will accept this price, and yet more time and effort wasted trying to sort.

Obviously, the price quoted includes removal of the old ones, thus price is higher than just installation.

Now, if only someone was able to confirm how the caps can be removed, and the cost would reduce significantly.

As I did it when I took deliver of the car ....I can confirm that the caps are very easy to remove ..with something sharp ...like the plastic things ( don't know how it's called ) where you remove headunits in cars ,they just pop out ...

Now in regards to the cost I can't advise you as apparently prices over here are different ...for example the side blades plus the rear spoiler I paid 250€ for painting them in mystery blue ....but in general from what I noticed accessories are much cheaper here rather UK

How do the blades fit? Sticky tape and adhesive or screws? Thank you
Both. The double sided adhesive has failed on mine, so would recommend bonding them to the car.

Mine are being repaired/replaced under warranty.

I have attached some photos from another thread.

No idea I’m afraid. It’s taken quite some time to get an agreement to repair as there has been a dispute with respect to manufacturing defect vs quality of workmanship by the supplying dealer/body shop.

Normally if items are repaired under warranty the dealer keeps the parts.
