two possible probs...

one is a faulty solenoid..which will need replacing..

another is a faulty lock mechanism..
This can temporarily be worked around...

hold the lock (S badge) horitontally out with the tips of your left hand fingers then strike down hard against the S with the heel of your clenched right fist....
this got mine working again till I got a replacement.

and its a secret seat mechanics technique for what was once a common prob on early Leons

mine was due to be replaced on friday, but was cancelled due to lack of part. Its now booked in for next friday.

If your boot SOUNDS like its opening (ie u can hear the solenoid unlocking/locking with the c/l) then its the lock mechanism itself - marks solution above should work but i hate using it. Dealer couldnt get into my car - was there for 1/2hr trying to open the boot.

Get it to ur dealer with it jammed and get it swapped under warranty. They wont replace it unless they see the problem. If you take it in and its working, they will just assume you dont know how to use the bootlock, like they did me.

if not, mine sorted itself out overnight, was fine the following morning. Glad they have seen the issue now - its getting sorted underwarranty.

BTW, this will be my 2nd bootlock in a year, and the 8th trip to the dealer with this problem.

so lower the back seats and get the stuff in/out that way?
Seriously, try marks fix and see if it works. If not, get down to dealer ASAP.

on mine the solonoid wasnt moving far enough. i could here it 'work' but it didnt unlock.

i had to get inside boot from inside the car.
pull off trim and i lubricated it.

operated it a few times.
18 months later ive never had a problem
not happy at time, seems to this should be part of ervicing but you cant get to it with trim on!

seems to be common, but cant say for sure thats what it was,

Right - now my boot is stuck again. I called the dealers and they cant fit me in "doh!". Only problem is i am going on holiday soon and need the boot. Can anyone suggest a way of making it work again easily without me mullering the car?

try the same thing again - its about the only thing you can do!
Mine is stuck again, but its time for a bit of bad news for you (and me):

Dealer phoned and cancelled my 2nd booking in 2 weeks for the bootlock replacement - again it has not arrived, and its on back order or something.

Last time my bootlock was changed (6months ago) I waited for 6weeks for the part to arrive. I just hope I dont have to wait the same length again :(

remove the boot trim...

use a bit of lubricant and lub the solonoid and anything that looks like it would benefit.
leave trim at home and keep a long stick in the car so you can poke it if it gets jammed again.
not ideal, but if the lock stops working and hitting the s badge dont work, at least you can get to the lock from the inside.
(long stick is im thinking you will have stuff in the boot?)

I only had to use my fix once as the dealer had it booked in within a week..

mind you it was a new car and when I collected it the boot didnt work...so much for the PDI which was absolutely crap...

headlights pointing wrong way
washer jets missing windscreen
plastic covering still stuck on bits in interior
tyres with 55lbs of pressure in WTF!!!

sorry for being dim but any tips on how the trim comes off to get to these parts?

to get at mechanism:

you have 2 choices...
1: remove trim totally.
2: trim is a little flexible and you can just about (with some bother) get to the mechanism by pulling the trim back while sitting in the boot.

get in the boot. (take seats down)

REMOVE SCREWS, - one in each handle resess.

facing the rear of the car grab the grey trim at the top.
pull it towards yourself.
the trim is fairly flexible and takes a bit of pulling.
id starting by pulling trim away in the centre but pulling with both hands with one either side of the centre as you have to be quite firm and you dont want to damage it.

At this point you can decide if you want to remove the whole trim or want to have a go at it with it in place. You can probably lubricate it like this,
personally i took mine off as i wanted to be able to get at it if my fix didnt last and needed to find out what was going on.
(in my case the solonoid cylinder thingy was moving but only 80% of the way and its at end of its travel that it clicks into place. I lubricated it and operated it a few times and it has worked since).

So if you are removing the trim:
When it comes away it sounds horrible as the trim is held in place with push fit metal clips - and a fair few of them.
make sure you collect any that have fallen off.
some will be in the trim, some may have decided to stay attached to the boot.
It is also held in place at the outside edges by the way it clips together with the surrounding trim.
I cant actually remember if you are able to remove it completely while in the boot, i pretty sure i pulled most of the trim off in the boot to give access to the lock. This allowed me to open the boot and totally remove the trim with the boot open.

when you go to put it back on at some future point (i left mine a long time to gain confidence it was to do so) make sure all clips are in the trim not the boot, as it will only go back on with metal clips attached to the trim as this is how there were designed.
think there are 10-12 in all!
