There is no lure Bubba, this is a clutch discussion and I don't see you adding any useful info....

You don't have an argument so there is no debate agility, you've got nothing apart from a few people you know being ok with them.

You might not have heard any bad reports about them, but you probably don't get around enough.

I've read on TDIclub about them failing, as the Americans have Sachs as standard and in Europe we have LUK more often, so have provided links, analysis and photos of failures...whereas you have provided nothing in terms of solid evidence.

The catastrophic failure was on a standard vehicle - maybe you missed the fact that I pointed this out several times, to highlight the fact that it doesn't just happen to modified cars.

TDIblog is even rating them at 230 ft/lbs!!

You cite DMF problems, but is that LUK or Sachs?

It makes a big difference, as the LUKs are known to be about 50 ft/lbs stronger than the Sachs, and LUK have a good reputation for strength and reliability with these clutches.

OK Leon2012, enough is enough. There is no need to get personal like that. The idea of a forum is discussion, not personal insults. I might be female and blonde, and therefore knowing nothing, but comments like that are not necessary, and I object to it. Quit the attitude.

i didn't read the whole thread so not sure what happened about the dodgy clutch you bought, but they can't charge you a restocking fee. can give you more info about distance selling regulations if you want.

Well i looked on ebay and they say sellers CAN charge that. Yes please mate that would be good. But i suppose i could google it lol.

I bought a clutch and sent it straight back as it is brand new. Im awaiting a cheque from them atm, it should be here by Friday.

Hi Ash,

It's good to see you got it sorted & that the Southbend feels good :)

Hardly anyone on here even knows about Southbend clutches as they're American, but they are definately the best around, and have amazing clamping force and pedal feel.

Once it's bedded in properly, I'd be interested to hear your comments ;)

sorry not replied, been busy.
basically, if you bought it as a BUY IT NOW (not auction) and from someone acting in the course of a business (ie could still be a private seller, but selling loads of car parts or like 10 clutches) then you're covered by the distance selling regulations. there's some more intricacies to it, but as long as you let them know within 7 days after receiving the item (or upto 3 months if they haven't given you durable information regarding DSR's or T&C's covering DSRs) then you're entitled to a full refund. whether you get back original p&p costs depends on this durable information they may have provided, but at the least you should be getting back 100% of the cost of the clutch.

How long after receiving it did you advise them of your wish to return it?

Well, after a 3 week battle for a refund from techniclutch, ive finally got all the £600 back through doing a paypal claim so there wasnt a 20% restocking charge :D

Money is ready for exhaust now, then soon after, a remap :D

Running the stage 2 daily driver southbend clutch for 2 weeks now and its spot on. Cant fault it at all. I must admit theres a slight chatter as i got the SMF but not that loud so its all good. No judder, no slipping and the clutch pedal feels the same just the biting point is nice and low as it should be.

The only reason i went for the stage 2 daily driver over the stage 1 is because they only had the stage 2 in stock and i needed it quick. Takes them over a week to get it and send it if they are out of stock as its from USA.

Cant wait to get exhaust on and get it remapped now :D
