Next generation Ibiza

Autoexpress have published an article on the next generation Polo. According to that the new Polo will use a modified version of the current car's platform rather than an all new chassis as a money saving exercise.

The engines used will include 1.4 and 1.6-litre FSI direct-injection petrol units plus 1.9-litre TDI turbodiesels. No 2.0-litre diesel? It will also use the 1.4-litre TSI engine with 138bhp and 168bhp versions.

If the next Ibiza follows suit it seems rather a lukewarm development of the current model to me as I was hoping for a completely new chassis with improved handling and ride.

On the other hand Autoexpress might have got it wrong.

I was under the impression from Autocar (somewhile ago) it will share the next platform of the Audi A3, but the new A3 is due in 2010, and i dont think the ibiza could last that long without a big change!

at the moment the Ibiza is on the same platform as the Polo and Fabia

and the Leon is on the same platform as the Golf and A3 and Octavia

if they make the ibiza on the same platform as the a3 it will not be a supermini anymore so I can't see that's going to happen

posted pics up a few months back on the "NEW" Ibiza, not the facelift.

It is a completely new car, and launches very close to the "NEW" fabia.

Allegedly, the current "facelift" Polo is a totally new car with a new chassis, so an 18 month program would suggest a facelift New Polo, with a NEW Beeza and a NEW Furby all about the same time.


New Polo is in kinda the same situation as the Peugeot 207. It's a totally new car, but looks so much like it's predecessor

Yeh i kind of agree ibiza r in the same league as fabia's/ polo's

then u got the leon with golf's/A3

The handling of the Ibiza is pretty average compared to most other rivals!

The base and mid range Ibiza models are some of the best handling cars in their section i thought!

Some photos of it I thought it was cut down A3 platform? I could be wrong though.

I reckon the bizza handles well even with the base 1.2 setup not soft and lots of body roll like the fabia

BTW have any of you guys driven a Hyundai gets, jesus I thought it was gonna roll over and that was only at about 25mph....

We have a a peugeot 406 HDi, and a 1.2 SX Ibiza. And although the drive in the pug is much more comfortable, the Beeza is much more exhilerating.

the Pug rides over speed bumps, coz they're not there, it wallows round corners, coz corners are not bendy. It rides country lanes like they are bowling alleys, coz they are as smooth as baby's bums.

Driving the Peugeot might be effortless and smooth (especially with cruise control), but the beeza (even in 1.2 3cyl) feels alive and real!!!!!!!!!!
