Nomad Pillar and boost gauges

cheers mitchy for the advice, ordered all the kit last night i.e. autogauge and nomad A pillar, the only thing that daunts me is wiring it into the electrics. How difficult is this to do considering I am a novice?

not at all, connect the - to any bare metal, under the bonnet release trim is a grounding point you can use. connect the + to the dash dimmer switch, can't remember the colour though, sorry. You could connect to any switched +12 source, but then the gauge won't dim with the rest of the dash

FPR is too much hassle to run too hence why most people take it from the DV. Gives an accurate reading at DV also.

As to the wire, its easy just find an ignition live wire, cut the plastic sheathing (not through the wire) to expose the metal wire, and wrap your wire around that exposed wire. Put some tape around to seal it up and bob's your uncle.

You now have an ignition live source to your gauges!

how would I know which wire is an ignition wire? also is it best to disconnect thr battery when doing the wires or is having the ignition off o.k?

Will most probably come on for further advice when I get the boost gauge for the wiring. Do you get the tubing and T peice with the autogauge? is the standard bulb in the gauge bright enough or is it worth upgrading, is there anyway of making it light up all red? sorry for all the Q's

The autogauge gauges are black/white and red lit anyway, i wouldnt bother changing bulb.

Yes you will get t-piece and tubing with gauge!

As to ignition live, i cant remember what colour the wire is but i found mine behind the fuse panel, where your main light switch is. If you ask on here when doing it someone will know and direct you to right wire

on my guide you may read that I changed my bulb.

This IS worth it IMO - the bulbs supplied are standard yellow colour, but come with different coloured rubber "caps" that you put over the bulb. This actually makes it look orange rather than red :(

I changed to a 4-led cluster bulb - far more red and brighter too :)

I THINK all colours etc will be on my guide - all images should show the wires that you need for dimming the gauge with the dash.

Yes thats with the gauges you have mate, with the smoked series autogauges there is no need to change the bulb!

Agree though with your gauge that a red bulb suits it a lot better. Looking good:)

Im sure the wiring wont be too bad looking at it, only 2 wires to tap into brown & white/blue ones.
ordered some scotchlok connectors, unsure what size so ordered some red/blue ones as cheap enough, was thinking of getting some tubing to blend in better with the oe tubing, will think about this though.

dont have a hand drill, will a cordless be alright?

two smoked autogauge gauges for about £37 all in.

I had a right mare of a time getting the pillar to stick. In the end I had to glue a strip of wood along the top edge of the car's pillar and silicone the nomad to it, using the supplied velcro along the bottom edge. Velcro on it's own kept coming unstuck.

i didnt need to remove it - i just lifted it up and did it in situ - was a bit awkward though...

Wipers off is easy enough, but taking the plastic off i think can be more tricky...

I think ill have to take the plastic off as I cant really see where I should be drilling for the grommet, next to the bonnet release I did see a hole but unsure if this was a wiring grommet.

How much hassle is it gonna be to get the plastic off?

somewhere else
It's a bit of a pain on the passenger side as you have to clip it under the plastic bit that goes over the air filter. Not too hard tho. If you take the wipers off you could just get someone to hold the plastic bit out of the way as it's quite bendy.
