my car had a faulty temperature sender, my (cheap/ebay elm327) obd2 didn't pick up any faults (it connects / picks up rpm etc. ok) but my garage's kit picked up the faults. Any ideas why? I'm wondering if my car works on OBD but doesn't support OBD2, apparently it was right on the wrong side of the edge where diesels *had* to support OBD2. I'm not sure what my garage is using but I'd guess it's a genuine VAGCOM job. Anyone got a recommendation for something that will definitely work?

cheers

If nothing else it points you in the right direction fault wise ,other than that its a case of could be this ,could be that ....etc .This unit picked up a code for the coolant temp sensor ,cleared the fault and its been fine since .
Yes you have to look the codes up ,but for £10 its money well spent in my opinion .
