Gona change the oil on the LC for the first time this weekend and was just wondering it there were any silly surprises I should know about before I get under the car as ive never done an oil change on a 1.8T before.

Ive done plenty of oil changes on my previous cars but I don’t want to find out when I’m under the car that the sump plug is a stupid shape or something like that. The first time I changed the oil on my old Fiat Punto I found out that the sump plug was a square peg which I didn’t have:wtf:.

Thanks

No suprises, just make sure when u put the sump plug back that you don't cross thread it as a few on here have done, also as I'm sure u know make sure the oil is warm before u chance it so it flows easier, Seat recommend that you should replace the sump plug with a new one, but that can be taken with a pinch of salt.

what i found is because the plug is on the back of the sump, it is difficult to direct the oil into a container meaning i got it ALL over, when i was looking i think it would be easier to remove the sensor from the bottom and drop it out through that hole, just an idea :D

not silly at all, if your not used to playing with cars its daunting as your scared of missing something, im the same but iv found if you just crack on and do it its not that bad. Simple service take the top off the air filter box and swap the old and re seal, warm the car a little before dropping the oil so its thinner, and i would use the sensor hole as it really does seem easier, once oil is out jack it and remove skid tray to get into filter, caveman style whack a long driver through it to get a twist and loosen it for removal, dab of oil on the new filter seals and fit it hand tight. Replace skid tray and make your way upto the top end to refill oil. Next engine cover off and remove the bolts holding the vac resevoir in place on the top right of the rocker cover, then pull all 4 coilpacks. Long socket to remove plugs, replace with new ones, replace coil packs, re tighten vac res and thats done. Fuel filter is located in front of drivers side rear wheel, run the car and pull the fuse for the fuel pump, the car will conk out. Jack it, undo clamp, remove the two pipes on push connectors, swap filter and reverse the order to re connect, bish bash bosh job done, laughin

as said above, dont forget to run some oil over the filter seal before fitting, and dont overtighten it.

its an easy enough job, the most difficult bit being taking the undertray off and putting it back on. (if its still in place)

Just my 2 pence worth, I wouldn't be sticking a screw driver through the oil filter unless it was the last resort. They "should" only be hand tight.

Me and the brother-in-law did it today and all went smoothly.

The sump plug was a 13mm socket and the the oil filter came off by hand although I did have to put on some grippy rubber palmed gloves to get a good grip.

All in all it took about an hour along with swapping the air filter element and reseting the service reminder with vagcom.
