Driving back to my house ewhen the oil light shows followed by the three beeps of death.. So I drove over into a petrol station and filled it up with oil.. checked the dip stick and all looked fine. So i continued my journey to find it happened again 5 minutes later, so i pulled over, turned off the engine and checked the dip stick again. All looks fine.. restart the engine the light goes out so i continue on... this happens again and by this time i had to continue home. The car seems to be running fine, temp gauge is showing normall no sign of over heating etc. Im now going to leave it for the engine to cool then check for leaks. Any ideas?

Is there an oil light then? Im pretty sure its water temp, and looking at the symptoms, looks like your water pump may have gone!

Is the cambelt due for a change soon? If so get them both done at the same time.

Could also be a dodgy thermostat.

the oil light only comes on when i reached over a certain speed then stays on, when i came in this morning i switched off the engine and back on again and the light was off.

your right... no oil pressure gauge on R.. just oil temp and batt voltage..

Thought there would atlest be an oil pressure light tho??? Its a much better indication of when your motor is about to suffer serious damage..

All the french cars I've ever owned have either had a gauge + light or a light at very least.....

theres bound to be an oil pressure light, though it maybe the exclamation mark light

as what forbez said tho are you mixing up with the water temp gauge and redlight next to it at the top of the dials?

excuse me for being blond but it isnt the water gauge, this was the oil sign in the middle instrument panel flashing red. (where engine management sign, batt sign etc)

It's inside. You have to drop the sump and take it out from underneath. Don't know how though.

Now fixed, the problem was a faulty oil pressure switch, apparently the Ibiza has three of these buggers. The part was around £20 or so and took around two hours to fix.

front of engine on the oil filter housing if i remember correctly, get it done asap as it may not be a switch/sender it could be low oil pressure that aint good
