Hi guys,

Quick question, is anyone running one of the cheap £90 ish decat downpipes from eBay? If so do they still fit ok? Is it really worth paying the extra £80 for the Milltek one? I had a cheaper alternative on my old Octavia VRS and that fit ok.

I'd also like to know the answer to this one as I'm in the same boat.

The turborevs one on ebay looks pretty decent and there pretty basic replacements with not a lot that can go wrong,i'd go for it.

Can I ask if your car is mapped?

My car is currently mapped by custom code and well, I don't really want to talk about that company as they have completely screwed my ecu up with their shite software.

I'm in the process of having a map written for me by a forum member and to get to the power I want to be at I need a decat downpipe and don't really want to pay £170 for a brand name if something else cheaper will be a decent fit and do the job just as well (after all it's only a bit of pipe).

I'll be having either a Milltek system or a two box system made. I don't want the stupid pigeon noise or to sound too much like a Massey Ferguson lol

I'm only asking because I had a decat and backbox delete thinking the less restriction the better but it must have created to much vaccum on the turbo and was drawing oil through the seals.

Yes the lack of back pressure will do that. Escort Cosworths used to be prone to it when decatted, my old Volvo 850 T5 did exactly the same when I decatted that to. If the turbo fails on mine then I'll be sticking a 2260 on it from a a6 3.0 tdi then have it mapped again and another downpipe

Mine kicks out blue smoke on start up for a couple of mins anyway. Clears itself once it's got over the initial rough running and a bit of heat gets into it. Takes a good 5-10 mins though. Notices it's really really sluggish til up to temp as well.

Boost pipes are my next thing to sort. I want the Airtec FMIC and hardpipes but i'd also be interested to find out what Darkside 'modify' on the S3 intercooler for it to fit the Leon. I'd be happy to make my own pipework potentially

I dont think they modify anything as such its just that the s3 intercooler has alloy end tanks and the inlet and outlet pipes are held with jubilee/mikalor clips instead of the stock intercooler which has plastic end tanks and the pipes are held with the **** vw clip connector.

You can fit the s3 cooler with your original inlet and outlet pipes all you need to do is carefully remove the formed metal connector which is pressed on to the end of them and then shove them on to the new cooler with jubilees.

The only problem with that is you still have the **** vw clip connectors elsewhere so getting the hardpipe kit is a good idea if you can justify their price.

That's the thing for me, their price is a lot. But if it's reliable then I don't mind paying out so much. I know plastic end tanks are an arse, I blew one off a new intercooler in my last B7 A4 Avant TDi lol absolute pain!
