As you can see - it's in, connected to the wheels, front end is back on, coolant hoses are connected - all but one power steering line is connected (but it's a bit buggered, so will need replacing I think

Wiring loom is laid roughly in place, and connected in places (battery is in holding it down)

Tomorrow is wiring, and downpipe

God damn I impressed myself - engine was out by 10am, and then Jonah popped by and I jetwashed the engine bay, then after fitting F2-Stu's old manifold We pushing it back, lifted up onto the mounts & Job done!

That's got to be some kind of record.

I think I could have had it running today as well had I not run out of rapist gloves & energy

Still, been to B&Q and now have a hole cutty thing to put some holes in the bulkhead (under the ECU) for the wiring loom to drop into the fusebox below

The plan is to plug 'everything' in then work out what electricals aren't working (I've got 2 complete wiring looms in the car, and am not removing the 'old' one)

Also worth noting was the subframes I used were the original ones - the rear is identical, just used the mounts from the engine.

The front I was all set to use the old subframe from the coupe, as it has cut outs etc for various parts - but I hit a snag that the vario's chassis leg mounts were about 1" narrower and 2" further forward than the coupe's (it's not a bent car...)

So I used the Vario's one - and it mounts just fine. (so same as 1.4 etc)

I'll spend tomorrow wiring it into the ignition, just to 'test' fire it - Stu's heading north too - so I'll see if he feels like swapping my rear beam

Looking good matey (the car, not you:D) - will be interesting to see how the rest of it goes.

Prior experience of engine swaps on lesser vehicles tends to suggest sorting the oily bits is usually comparatively simple, it's the electrics that tend to get traumatic. Using both looms ain't such a bad idea, but could get a touch messy. Hope there's no tricky interlocks to trip you up - which is something I've fallen foul of in the past.

Damn you!

No interesting progress photo wise today.

Stu arrived, and we've mounted the downpipe (dropped rear subframe) - then I set about wiring, while Stu did the rear beam for which I'm very grateful for his help!

Wiring was OK - I even had dash lights, stereo & working windows. So I wound them down, as it was very warm. then messed about some more & it won't wind up now! hey ho. that's a job for tomorrow now.
