ah I miss the step up noise to the vtec. that was immense!!

I miss the power in general, wasn't easy going from a nick over 200bhp to 85!
Although I did go from a 300bhp M3 down to a Mk4 ibiza 1.4 Sport which was worse :(

On the topic of induction kits does anyone know of a kit for the NA 1.4 engine in my Sport? It's far too bleedin quiet compared to my previous car, sometimes forget its switched on

i think this sums up the VTEC engine. notice the torque:p

great engine when your wringing the sh!t out of it, so on track its awesome. IF they produced a turbo VTEC as standard fitment to the civic type R id buy one now. great chassis, all it needs is more torque

Actuallly no it's not. In fact it isn't any different to any other normally aspirated 2 litre engine in terms of torque, the mere fact that it creates 200bhp from it's 2 litre unit puts it in class with it's rivals for which many are turbocharged or supercharged to produce that same bhp output. So it's not that it lacks torque at all, it merely punches above its weight in the bhp stakes ;) I had mine for 2 years and hadn't a single complaint to make, it was by no means a slouch :)

seat only replace the filters every 20000miles, i got the revo one to make the car a bit more free reving and hope that it may make a bit of a noise......i just nosed anothe boc in a 1/4 at crail on sunday...maybe it was the filter as that was the only difference hehe (i know there are other variables im just being optimistic :p)
and ill take the noise of a super charger over vtec annny day throw in a turbo as well and your in heaven :p

the standard TFSI makes a plateau of torque 207lbft from 2000-5500rpm. Even with the turbo or supercharger conversions they only produce around 236lbft of torque, whereas the TFSI will happily make over 300lbft+.

what this means is the Type R is great when flat out and in the powerband but round town when the car is well and truly below the powerband, the average turbo powered car which is driving around in the peak torque band of the rev range will drive off. I know that for a fatc.

A friend of mine spent the best part of 2-3k on a new remapped ECU, intake, TBE etc etc when mine was only stage 1 (£500) and he could not stick with me at all, and the stage 1 bluefin i had on at the time was woefully underpowered compared to the other tuners and the car is about 150kg heavier than his type R.

He actually sold up the following month and bought a vRS and has said he will never to buy a NA car again

Why are you trying to compare an NA car to a turbo'd one? lol You can't lol two totally different technologies as you know. You are only confirming what I said in my previous post, that the Type R's bhp output tends to be compared to turbo'd cars which it shouldn't be

in that case you cant compare the ibiza to the clio (because its NA) and you cant compare it to any of the other hot hatches as they are not twincharged. behave, it doesnt matter how the engine is designed, its in the hot hatch catagory, so it will be compared with other hot hatches.

You really don't get it, you can't just say all hot hatches are in the same category it's not as simple as that lol its fair enough to compare turbocharged cars to turbocharged cars but expecting a 200bhp NA hot hatch to behave the same as a turbo'd hot hatch is just plain stupid they're going to have totally different characteristics

I get it 100%.

A hot hatch is a hot hatch, irrelevant of its engine. they all develop their cars to compete with each other. what other hot hatch can you compare the civic to? its the only medium size NA engined hot hatch available. I agree with your point about differing characteristics and that is what ive been saying all along. the characteristics of the type R engine are crap. flat out or not at all.

which is exactly the why you compare in the first place. the VTEC engine has no go unless its being revved out its t!ts. it hasnt got any flexibility in its engine, it cant make quick progress whilst in high gears low revs etc as its just dead then. Its its biggest flaw. thank fook honda have dropped the engine and are going for a 2.0T this time instead, because with the honda chassis/drive train it will be a very very good car to drive.

Lets not drag this any further off topic now then.

because its universal you will have no idea of the type and quality of filter material etc. For example the intake on a NA engine requires much less particle filtration than a turbo charged engine. This is why i would tend to lean towards the bigger names as you know they are less likely to be penny pinching to make profit
