Well had the new car less than one week less than 100 miles on the lock and now picked up a nail/screw in the front near side tyre. Its right on the shoulder so really not repairable.Contacted the dealer but not the salesman ( yet) they are giving me 10% off a new tyre not exactly great saving !!! I am going to speak to the salesman tomorrow to see if I can get a better deal.
I know it's just bad luck but has anyone else had a similar problem with a happier outcome??

tbh your doing well to get anything off tyres from the dealer, as they aren't obliged to do anything.

i would look else where for tyres tbh

I always thought the same as you and a tyre couldn't be repaired if it was near the edge
Depending on the exact damage and the area sometimes it can be safely repaired. Take it into a specialist tyre shop, not kwik fit or the like
They might be able to help you if they consider it is safe to repair

There are certain tyre places that claim to be able to repair tyres that have punctures outside the area where a repair is normally permitted. Never used one but from what I have read on other sites they charge a large sum and your tyre can be away for several days. If you have a car like the Leon with no spare that is not really an option.

But think about it, your tyres are the only thing between your car and the road. they lead a very hard life and its a miracle they last as long as they do. Personally I would never be happy driving a car on a tyre that had been damaged on the shoulder or sidewall, if it lets go the consequences are going to be potentially serious.

Forget the dealers kind offer of 10% off, go to a local independent tyre dealer and you will get a matching tyre for much less than that and hopefully many 1000's of miles of worry free motoring.

As for Blackcircles, a chap at work used them a few months ago, saved a large sum of money but the "recommended" garage they sent the tyres to for fitting mullered his alloys using ancient fitting kit. Blackcircles not interested, fitter points to notice on the wall which says they have no liability for damage to alloys.

I'd be inclined to change the tyre myself. Might not be repairable, in the old days you'd get it plugged but alas there's no time machine.

You've still the option of an inner tube for a tenner, be a shame to waste all that tread or if its just a slow leak swap it onto the rear and live with it.

The screw is more or less right on the edge of the tread where the tyre begins to curve onto the sidewall. To be honest I`m just going to get a new one Camskill are doing them for £105 for the 18" versions!!So looks like a phone call to them tomorrow

Ouch! that's a sore one.

Dont think a normal tyre place would repair it anyway, well not legally if its right on the edge.

You've still time to re-write your letter to Santa TH :p

Good stuff :)

I felt your pain, got two new tyres fitted in Costco Glasgow once and had a tyre wrecked on the drive home, had to buy another one, so much for my bargain tyres
