Questions about reversing valve and (I think) boost sensor

The car eats and excessive amount of fuel and I got diagnosed with
P0441 - EVAP Emission Contr. Sys. Incorrect: Purge Flow
P0299 - Turbo Super Charger underboost..

I'm running a 1.8 TSI engine. The mechanic says the culprits are reversing valve and a boost sensor (pictured below, apologies if I misnamed them). The thing is, he maintains the proposition that the car needs to stay with them one whole work day to do the sensor and valve adaption. The shop seems competent and very professional. I'm no mechanic, but I would expect these to be plug and play and car computer to already have those settings and intended behavior? Has anyone had these done before and do these indeed need adaptation via diagnostic tools? IF they do, how much time does it really take to do something like that, or, again, is it only just, plug in and forget?
