Radiator problem and breakdown :(

Earlier in the year I had a leaking radiator which seat diagnosed as I kept getting the low coolant warning.
Seat were asking for quite a lot of money to change it so I thought I would get a VW Specialist to change the radiator.

The other week I get a phone call from my fiance stressing out that the car is overheating and warning her that the temperature is too high.
Thankfully she was not far from home but I told her to stop, turn off the engine and let it cool down a little.

She got home, I did some investigation and found the lower part of the radiator hanging off and the lower temperature sensor had been rubbing against the alternator belt and worn some holes into it causing the coolant to leak.
Unfortunately we had a holiday last week and I've only just had the chance to investigate properly as to what happened.

I did some careful wiggling of the radiator and found the top part on the drivers side loose. I realised that it wasn't clipped in properly. Looking at the housing for the clip it looks broken. It looks like someone has wedged a screwdriver in there to try and remove the old radiator and broken it.

I'm guessing that over time as this section wasn't clipped in properly, it's worked it's way loose causing the breakdown.

Anyone know what parts needs to be changed to fix this?

The last thing I wanted to coming back from hols was to get into an argument with the garage who botched this! :(

Not an answer to what you need to buy too sort this, but did that VAG Indie end up replacing your leaking radiator and now that messed up job has caused this?

I'd be getting them to sort it out as clearly they would have been the only ones to have caused this as it it was broken before, then they should have reported what they found and billed you for this extra work.

Can you work out which side is broken, is it the radiator or the lock carrier, this might need a botching up to sort it without spending a lot of money.

I think they must have broken that clip housing when they replaced it and it's worked its way loose over time. I can't think how else it would have got broken.
I'm surprised that the whole radiator housing is only secured by some plastic clips! A screw or a clamp wouldn't have caused this :(

I'll be on the phone tomorrow to speak to the Garage. What's the chances they'll deny responsibility for this :(

I suppose at the end of a phone call they will, but if/when you take it in they should hold their hands up and sort it out, the only thing is, in my world, it is easy enough to see that when you hand your car in and ask them to fix X and Y you are leaving it up to them to chose to do what in their mind is needed and even in that situation, if another part broke off your car while they were doing that job, then maybe that is just the way things can go, so they should have contacted you to say that extra cost are being incurred as they should not have handed that car back in that condition.
If on the other hand, you take your car along and say that you want your radiator replaced, they will be working to your instruction and could quite easily be allowed to ignore any other issues pre-existing or happening while doing that task.
You might disagree with my logic - and you might be right to do that, things can get a bit messy, I'd be a bit pee'd off having that happen to me and probably cool down and botch up a reliable way to sort it out.
