Remap brought up turbo issues

I got my 2011 Leon FR a stage 1 remap today and they let me know that there could be some underboost issues with my turbo (carbon buildup, etc.). They have a good reputation and said they don't actually do work like fixing them so I'm inclined to trust them.

Has anyone else had experience sorting this out? Cleaning was mentioned but is not always successful. Is a replacement turbo worth even considering on a 10 year old car?

Yeah it is a good consideration

Have you fault read it or did they carry out a boost leak test?

They said in among some other historic faults they saw reports of underboost - they found sometimes nearer the top end of the rev range it gave out a little bit, but not consistently.

Their personal opinion was cleaning works about 60% of the time, but the recommendation was replacement. Seeing as that could be £500-700 from what I've found I'd be hesitant to replace, but I do love this car.

Check for boost leaks first, since they're much cheaper to fix.

You need to pressurise the intake system to check for leaks, a smoke test won't always find them.
