So...not strictly Leon related, but I am breaking my mk1 Cupra R.

Anyone know how I go about informing DVLA i've dismantled the car myself? I can't find anything helpful online other than that i have to keep declaring it sorn!

Apparently I need a certificate of destruction that I can only get by taking it to a recognised dismantler?

When I scrapped an old car of mine I just exchanged paperwork with a salvage place the same way you would to change owners. They fill in the relevant parts and cart the rest of the car away. Beyond that yes, keep it SORN, and let me know if you have the bonnet for sale and how much and where you're located please :)

(If it's the platinum grey car in your avatar pic)

I'm not looking at taking any of it to a salvage place though, the intention is to completely gut it myself.

It is the car in my avi, but unfortunately body panels (other than the rear bumper) are no good. I hit standing water on a blind dip at about 50mph a few weeks ago and went spinning through a hedge and into a farmers field. Bodywork wise, everything's bent and dented other than the bloody roof and the rear bumper. Insurance have written it off.

Ah sorry to hear that mate, hope you're ok? If you strip it they can still take the shell off you as it'll have the VIN number on it and it's officially changing the ownership of the vehicle.
