Hi guys, anybody know how best to get rid of/hide scratches on the black bit of the bumper? I scratched the hell out of it fitting some number plate surrounds! Doh! Tried auto glymm vynyl and rubber care, even a bit of wd40! They still look quite bad close up tho :-(

Don't know if the images will work as I'm using my phone.

Cheers.

I don't think there is a lot you can do with that textured plastic. It's not like you can rub it down or polish it out.

Thats what I feared. I'm probably gonna have to get used to it. Can't stop kicking myself for doing it though lol!

I was wondering if some sort of boot polish might work, although I think I'll test an inconspicuous area first in case it looks rubbish!

I'm sure this is not expensive to replace? £26 or something from Sere I'm sure I read the other day!

Might save you some hassle.

Not 100% set on the look of vynyl. Although I may consider carbon effect as a last resort :)

I'll pm dave@sere and see what the price is for a replacement, hopefully you're right mate, 26 quid is a bargain!

Excellent! Nice one pal. I'll have a try of that tomorrow and see how it goes. I've emailed dave for a price in the mean time in case I screw it up and make it worse somehow.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

Haha, reckon I will be EXTRA careful not to scratch it if I end up having to get a new one! Me and my clumsy sausage fingers! Lol.

I'm not set on painting/vynyl really buzz, although like I say, I would consider carbon vynyl as a last resort. Don't think that would look too bad. :)

The scratches aren't very deep, they just stand out where the plastic has been scratched. Kind of like the scratches on a cd. So I think they would cover with vynyl. Gonna try the tyre gel and if that doesn't work then I'm hoping dave at sere can quote a good price! :) if its a bit pricey I'll try and see if I can live with it. It's noticeable close up, but standing ten feet away it's hard to see.

Whats it called mate? I've tried the auto glymm stuff, but I'll be paying the local auto shop a visit tomorrow so may invest in something better if you can recommend!

Dunno if its well known but it starts to fill the little bumps in the plastic if you add too much. and would suggest getting a pad, i dunno what the pads are called but there smooth oval pads only little they lay it on quite well you buy them from halfords.

SIMONIZ jet black bumper restorer I think I got it at a garage servicing station.

Cost around £7 for 500ml
