Screw in my tyre! What do I do?

Do I take it out and risk the puncture and have to buy a new tyre or do I leave it in?

It's probably no bigger than 3/4mm screw!

Seriously though, dont take it out until you take it to someone who can repair it, if its in the sidewall it means buying a new tyre...

I've got a nail in mine, near the side wall. I've been told it's not repairable but it's been in there quite a while by looks of it! Don't take it out, but keep an eye on tyre pressure and get it replaced as soon as u can.

That's an awful joke. I'd expect that from Alan Partridge, lol !

The tyre isn't dropping in pressure at all, so, I might just leave it till the service next month.

Can these things be fixed or am I looking t a new tyre?

@ kriso - mine is on the tyre tread near the outside lip, maybe half an inch to an inch in from the outer wall. I don't think it will be affecting traction at all as it's pretty flush.

Yea that's where mine is as well and was told at my service last week that it can't be repaired

I dont think most places will repair if within an inch of the wall (as far as I can remember).

They can only plug the centre 3/4 of the tyre. Anything beyond that would need a specialist repair which may not be economically viable anyway depending on the tyre.

Lol, if you have a 260 odd bhp car, why mess about with tyres, and leave it to your next service? Pressure loss at motorway speeds can only end badly..

Similar situation - I've got a small bulge on one of my tyres sidewalls. Everyone I asked and every forum I read said to get a new tyre immediately but that was 7 months and 8k miles ago and it's still going strong.

Nail in the tyre, keep driving on it, nail gets pushed further into the tyre, tyre deflates.

If it's not punctured at the moment pull it out. If it's already punctured then it needs fixing, not driving. If it won't repair, then a new tyre is the only sensible course of action really.

If it's within 50mm (iirc) of the shoulder of the tyre then it can't be repaired. Otherwise get it to a tyre fitters and ask them to repair the tyre. Quick drill through and a bung / mushroom and it'll be fine. I've run on track days (not the LCR admittedly) on repaired tyres and they've been fine.

I wouldn't leave it though, or a bulge in the tyre wall for that matter, either way it's ready to fail spectacularly. I'd rather pay for a repair (I've given the fitter a tenner in the past for a pint or two in return for repairing the tyre) or replacement, than pay for the potential damage you could cause through what is effectively poor maintenance...

I don't know how long the screw is, it could only be a tiny one or it could be bigger, I just wont know until it's removed.

I checked all my tyres and it was @ 34psi, I think the pressure is meant to be 33 all round with 1/2 peeps in the car if I can remember correctly.

Yeah, the tyre will probab;y keep it's pressure with the screw there - It's just when the screw flys out going down the motorway and the tyre deflates, that's when the problems start.
