sorry to be thick but is the software update that you say is required from Nokia for the phone or the car bluetooth kit?? I am slowly going mad :wtf::confused::cry: trying to find a solution to getting my Toledo to access my phonebook on my new 5800 - I had no problems with my Sony Ericsson - it was a perfect marriage :D

As previous posters have mentioned, it might be worth doing an update to your Nokia 5800.
You can do this yourself using updater and PC Suite.

Also, not sure how old your car is, but, it might be worth trying to get an update to the bluetooth kit in the car.
Mine is a Dec 2005 and I have had one update to the bluetooth kit - of course this needs to be done by a SEAT dealer and when I had it done, they didn't even have the latest version on their programming kit, so they had to order it in!!

Unfortunately, I can't remember what the version no. is, but a dealer can read the module to check version in your car and he should be able to find out the latest version no.

Also, for compatability, add Nokia N97 Mini (my latest phone) - fully functional, though bluetooth connection is dropping rather frequently. It was starting to do that with my E75, so maybe it has a problem anyway?

Thanks John, I have downloaded all available updates to my 5800. My toledos is 57 reg and is going into the garage next week for some warranty work so they're gonna check for updates then. Called Nokia customer services just now to see if I could get any sense out of them, and had a very difficult phone call with them - couldnt understand half what the woman was saying cos although I dont think I was talking to India it was definitely somewhere very far away! she's supposed to be calling me back but I shant hold my breath!

dont know about the n97 but the problem sounds pretty common!
However I have discovered that the Nokia 6700 is fully compatible - dont think this one's been mentioned yet on this thread.
