There are trackers you can buy and install for about £300. I've seen one that uses a sim card and sends you a text for alerts etc. The problem is getting one insurance companies recorgnise. For decent money

Thats true,iv been on the tracker website and it looks like to get the full insurance discount you have to have the top subscription which is around £750 i think...is a lot but probably worth it as its fully supported by the ol bill.

Mate its all ridiculous if you ask me. My friend has a basic BMW in New York and he pays $25usd a month for tracking. Maybe because its not common on this country its so extortionate. its usually cooperate people who get it for their fleet.

I'm thinking of a hidden kill switch. A bloke who has a Leon near me has fitted one after his first Leon was stolen.

I really don't see the point of a tracker, if my car got nicked I wouldn't want it back.

A hidden kill switch sounds like a good idea.

A mate used to have a Escort Cosworth - he had a small smith inside the wheel that cut off the fuel. That was a really cheap but good idea.

Another cheper way of traking is getting an old mobile phone with GPS in it. Hide it in the car somewhere wired in, so it remains charged. If your car goes you can track it Find my Iphone Stylee!!!! All for the cost of an old phone and PAYG sim.

ECMS on APR Remap is another good idea.

I think you should always have a mechanical block in addition to any software block. There is a group of well known car theives operating in Manchester at the moment that are stealing cars via the diagnostic port - essentially reprogramming keys/ecus to allow the cars to be taken quickly and easily.

Can't see the point on something like a Leon to be honest. How many people are going to choose one of these over something more unique? Even something like a golf GTI..

I own a FL Leon myself so this isn't an anti-leon post!

To be honest mate any one of is who invests time money and effort into any car would want that sense of safety. :D.

An APR remap! They include an Anti-theft function, that depending upon the model, either wont allow the car to be started without a pin code, or will block any throttle input without a pin code.

Or take out the fuse for the fuel pump everytime you leave it, it won't be going anywhere then

There are cheap trackers on eBay for around £40, I wouldn't bother spending anymore. Just hide one of these in your engine bay, you can text it for location when needed.

Had a Citroen BX GTI which had a kill switch fitted by the previous owner in the back of the center console.. It work great until I went out from work one lunch time with three work mates (two sat in the back).. I was just pulling out of a busy junction when one of the guys in the back said "what's this switch for......... click"

I think nowadays the best security is something like a tracker. If someone is set on coming in your house and stealing your keys, I'm sure if anythings in their way steering locks/drive posts they'll come to you to remove it.

As for a tracker - A friend of mine who sprays cars for a living had an Audi RS4 in which had been stolen and had someone had done a rubbish paint job. The owner had to foot the £3000 bill himself after it had been recovered.
