Yeah, we've all been there. The thing is, so long as your car is well maintained (oil, air, coolant). Yes, remapping *can* put extra stress on the car. But... I've had my Cupra mapped for 3 years now. But it's not like I used the extra torque off every set of lights and red line it every gear change. I'd guess over a year, I probably only use more than stock power a handful of times. Usually first sign is you've pushed it too far is the clutch will slip above a certain torque. But if you pick a good remapper, they will spot that and hold the power back a bit. That's why generally a dyno is better so you can spot any power dips or clutch slips. Are there any decent local places to you? Where abouts are you... we might know of somewhere?

And you clearly have a greater knowledge than me, to put such a vague reply .....

I thought it would be pretty obvious to be honest, all of these remaps in a van type people.. all have the same website where they claim to be the "only specialist" but they remap all cars, trucks, buses, tractors etc.

In reality you can buy a "remap business" on eBay these days, you get sent loads of DVD's with files on them and you flash them, no testing, logging etc. Whole DVD costs like £30, you charge £150 and make easy money.

People come a long with a car, they have never had a remap before, all of a sudden their Mondeo diesel feels a lot faster, and they go around telling people "Use Dave, he really knows what hes talking about". In reality Dave probably hasn't even done any logging on the car, while hes sat in the car "remapping" it hes just waiting for it to upload. Hes not doing any editing at all.

For example, my daily MK1 Leon PD150, I purchased it last year, it had a "Stage 1" file on it from a company in Peterborough who advertise on Facebook/Instagram, So I decided to take the file off using MPPS and have a look at it, requesting 0.3bar more boost than safe limit for a PD150 turbo, and the boost was instantly on, no smoothing of the curve etc. In a program that predicts power based on file, the predicted power for the file was 235bhp, turbo only capable of producing 200max.

File has now been edited to safe limits, it produces a lot less smoke and surprisingly drivers a lot better.
