Steering rack

Hi, just had a 10,000m service and been told that I need a new steering rack. Only prob is it is on back order and will not be here till late may early june.Does this sound right as it seems a long time to wait?

Yeah i know what you mean. The rack is the same one as in the new golfs etc. Is yours making a noise when turning left. Its not a recall as such but if a customer complains about the noise we have to look at the build date of the rack, if its before week 46 2004 iirc then it has to be replaced.

I wouldn't worry about waiting, it wont affect you car in any way.

It is true, there are 100's required to correct the fault but they can't make them quick enough!

There are a lot of cars affected i think.
