sticky accelerator

coming home today, luckily only 1 minute away from my house.
Pulled out the junction and my accelerator pedal sank to the floor, i didnt realise this at the 1st gear change, i just thought i forgot to lift my foot off the gas :p
but it kept doing it and it was aggresivly pulling my car forwards, so i pulled over and turned the engine off, nothing looked out of place, left car in neutral and turned the key, and it revved up to 6k.

so i managed to drive home just going up the gears to make it slow down a bit, but it stopped as soon as i got into my estate.

Anyone had this problem before and whats the damage to my wallet if its something needing fixed. I don't really want to drive it incase it does it again, especially rush hour !

thanks, David.

Not the same car i know, but on my mates punto HGT a little rubber gromit type thing had stuck the accelerator down

Have a good luck around all the cables and see if anything is sticking or catching

 its happened again, think ill need a proper look at it and not just a 5 min job.
Dad said there was **** clogging up the cable so some wd40, then pressing the pedal for a bit, worked.
come out this morning and its back, not happy!:cartman:
