Poly Steering Rack Bushes

I should be taking delivery of replacement damper body today, also decided for softer springs, they are 6/5's at the moment, so I spoke to Apex and I can run the 5kg.mm on the front, and I have ordered 4kg.mm to go on rear, I will keep the 6kg.mm just in case I decide I need stiffer springs then can swap over.

So I am running on standard all round damper/springs at the moment, so I am ready to swap springs over when they come.

So I got to work doing the Poly Steering Rack Bushes, this is a very cheap and simple thing to do, took me about 40mins tops, and that included faffing about.

Can see the perished bush, wow it felt like bloody soggy cardboard, so crap!

IMAG0117.jpg

Here you can see the difference between the OEM and the Apex poly one.

IMAG0118.jpg

Here is a comparison between the other side.

This side is a bit trickier, as it is not round, it is round for 3/4's then it has a triangle type shape, so you need to clamp down the top mount to get it to fit, but it's not massively hard, just "harder".

Went for a drive, and a big difference in steering feel, felt so vague before, this has now gone and is more direct and gives you the confidence as you feel more feedback in corners.

I have not felt any negatives, as I said the round one was totally perished, so not noticed any bad things.

Not bad for 40mins and £25 :)

Also in other news, I went to see Kev @ Aline, ask if the adjustable arms is something he can do if I left the car with him, but he is so busy he said he can't which is fair enough.
So he gave me a garage Emperor Garage not far, went to see him (Ben) and he was proper sound and quoted me pennies really, so once the coilovers are on and new springs settled I will drop it off to him and then go down to see Kev to get it ready for Germany.

Thanks Craig, yeah with nearly every bush now uprated to Poly, it feels so much tighter and more predictable now I love it.

Sweet get some pics up when you do :)

Got damper yesterday, and softer 4kg.mm springs, got back late from work, so built them up and set the preload ready to be put onto the car, might try today after work if weather isn't crap.

Then next friday will be off to garage to get the adjustable arms on and then aligned :)

Coilovers on and all sweetttttttttttttttttt :D

Went for a spin on the softest damping setting (has 32clicks) with the 5 and 4kg.mm springs it is spot on, so I am well chuffed :D

Booked in Saturday to get arms put on, then straight to Aline to get it setup (as I am running low on time now, so Emperor Garage can have good fun with the arms lol).

I picked up my rear calipers, so should hopefully fit them too.

I also picked up my Alloy rad, it is 42mm thick, compared to the standard 14mm one lol.

So I got 3weeks this thurs, oh crap lol.

Adjustable Arms + Alignement.

So finally I got the Adjustable Arms put on :D

I used a garage called Emperor Garage in Oldbury, funny thing is I got recommended by Kev @ Aline when I went down, but they are a sponsor on SXOC....doh...never noticed.

It's a small unit, but they are moving apparently to a bigger place in the next couple of weeks.

They specialise in Jap cars, but he had a BMW 535D there (DPF removed, no silencers and remap, sounded mentallllllll).

He know's his S-Bodies very well, especially S13's as him and Kev (a worker there) have had a few between them.

So they got to work on the Arms, made light work of the ceased camber arms with some heat :D.

They are proper anal and stripped down the adjustable arms and greased them up properly so they won't cease etc.

After this was done I was off to Aline to get setup.

I went for a "Fast Road" setup that Kev had on the system from previous cars, but I went for 7.5degrees front castor (he said the normal fast road have standard castor, as they choose not to change these arms, but it does make a big difference and i'd prefer it).

Here is the settings when I drove in (obviously garage did it by eye to get to me to Aline), and what I am running:

Settings.jpg

All I can say is it is spot on, wow what a difference it made, it feels like a brand new car, all come together now with the ARB's, Coilovers, Arms, Bushes and Alignment :love:

* Alloy Rad + Silicone Hoses + Coolant
* Steering wheel
* Oil Change

Then i'm off :D

Ring Prep

So my final prep for ring started, sorry been busy to not update.

Things I have done:
* Diff Oil change
* Gearbox Seal + Oil Change
* Engine Oil + Genuine Filter + Sump Crush Washer
* Tegiwa Brake Master Cylinder Stopper
* Remove AC (didn't work anyway)
* 42mm Alloy Rad + New Genuine Thermostat + Silicone Hoses + New Coolant
* SFS Intercooler Silicone Hoses
* Spark Plugs
* HKS Air Filter

BMC Stopper:
IMG_6238.jpg

So I got this for pretty cheap, I have heard good things about them, and for the price I tried it, it is very easy to fit (already has the bolts with covers on the suspension turret, just need cleaning as they were never used).

Principle behind them is, under heavy braking the bulk head flexes, which gives a crap feeling and crap braking.
This keeps it from flexing, and wow it is very noticeable straight away, I am so happy with it :D

Alloy Rad / AC Removal:
IMG_6239.jpg

So the standard rad is 14mm thick, and the AC did not work.
So ripped out the AC (still need to remove bits from inside dash when I get some time).
Wow the whole bits were real heavy, i'd say 30-40kg easily.

Alloy rad I put on was 42mm, I didn't want too thick, as i'd have to lose the viscous fan and shroud, which I did not want to lose, so 42mm one was spot on, and let me keep it :D

While I was there I changed the Thermostat for a genuine Nissan part, as it is on a 12year old car which had done 170k, better do it now to be safe.

SFS Silicone Intercooler Hoses + HKS Filter:
IMG_6240.jpg

So I have had a suspected boost leak now for about a good 2-3months, I narrowed it down to the Hotside pipe work, the original consists of a coupler>metal angled pipe>90degree coupler, and is crap in design and the couplers over years get crap from taking off etc.

So I spoke to Anthony @ SFS, he did a replacement kit which included throttle body hose (previous pic) and the hotside which is a 1 piece, which I definitely wanted.

Voila....boost leak gone, pulls so well again, idles well etc I am happy :D

Also when I was down Emperor before, he told me had some HKS filters and would let one go cheap to me with a SR20 adapter and fixing bracket, so went and got it :)
Not really tested much since I put it on, but have noticed more recirc noise since, about it (and it does feel free-r revving).

Gearbox Seal / Oil:
So there was a slight leak (very little) coming from where the prop goes into the gearbox, it's a common fauly for the seal to go (has a spring to keep shape, but over use / time it loses it's stiffness and allows a slight leak).

Also last time I put Silkolene stuff in, and 1st and 2nd gear was notchy (mostly when cold), but I am not alone many people on SXOC have had same problem, the Nissan stuff is the best and stops this, so I opted for it.

Notchy gears are now gone :D yayyyyy

Engine Oil + Filter:
So I changed to Millers Oils CFS 10w-50 Competition Fully Synthetic.
I was torn between this and the Fuchs Titan Race 10w50, couldn't decide, but many people rave about the cold properties to reduce cold wear (which Fuchs probably does too) but I got this.

New Genuine filter + sump crush washer too (yes I am anal lol).

Things I need to do:
* Grooved discs and Yellowstuff Pads front and rear
* Steering wheel (once Boss comes).
* Then off to Germany Thurs :D

So I had new Yellowpads in the shed, but due to rear sticking caliper, disc wear was not even, so needed new discs, a guy offered me front and rears well cheap, the rears were brand new and I paid less than what the rears cost lol.

I wanted to get my front GTST's Calipers on, but I know my calipers work spot on, and I am not 100% sure on the GTST's, so will rebuild them, and then put them on :)

If I do not reply back I didn't get time before Germany, so everyone have a good week or so, will write back when I am back :love:

Odd to have almost 0.5 degree variation on the camber left to right - it's not to account for driver weight, as that'll only exacerbate the delta.

Any reason for that?

Good luck with it all Damo, bit of a bummer going through it all again :(

m0rk, that is degrees and minutes, and would be 0.05degrees anyway?
