Hi There,

I am new to diesels, just having bought a Toledo SE 1.9 TDI.

My question is, how long should the glow plug light come on for on a cold
morning ??

Mine is only on for about 5 seconds, after which the engine starts fine.

I have been reading that a time of 10 to 15 seconds is not unusual, so I
was wondering why mine is only on for a very short period ?

Thanks

I would imagine that it means you have some pretty new Glow plugs that are working extreamly efficiantly.
Worry when the light goes off after 5 seconds and does not start.

Older diesels needed 10 seconds (and more at times).

Your car will need 5 seconds max, and you'll probably find it'll start instantly on all but the coldest mornings (without waiting for the light to extiguish at all).
