So I recently purchased a Ibiza 1.2TDI with 62k miles and this is my first modern diesel with all the emission stuff. I have to say the service history is impeccable, looks like anything the car has needed it has gotten including a new EGR only 4k miles ago.

So is there anything specifically I can do to help prolong the life of the new EGR valve? Or is it just a consumable part that will eventually clog and need replaced at great hassle no matter what?. I was thinking a long the lines of maybe a periodic fuel additive etc but not sure whether they actually have any benefit.

I know Diesels these days can be fairly fragile due to all the equipment needed to meet the Euro 5/6 emissions standards but just seeing if anyone has routine that has prolonged any DPF andc EGR issues.

Cheers

I have a 1.2Tdi Ecomotive and it’s on 151K so they do last if they’re well looked after. The only down side to the actual car is the lack of power but I do a lot of motorway so it sits comfortably at 70/80mph. I’ve never had any problems with the dpf or anything like that. But probably the way I drive at times
