ticking noise over 4500rpm

my 99 ibiza gti cupra sport sounds great wen revved and standing still but as soon as its in gear and over 4500rpm i get this ticking noise that falls and rises with the revs but disappears wen it drops below 4500rpm been told it could be a hole in manifold amplifying piston sound, any ideas ppl? It still runs and goes fine its just a really annoying sound!!!

Pinking?

a metalic sort or clicking noise due to pre ignition? normally caused by the ignition timing being too far advanced or the fuel mixture is too lean.

Normally heard when the engine is under load. normally the pinking is not in time with the engine.

to be honest it sounds like when u used to put playing cards in ur pushbike wheels to make it sound like an engine lol its a constant tick tick tick noise that rises and falls with the revs, iv also been told it could be my cam belt tensioner.

Could it be the hydraulic tappets, my MK 2 Golf did this once and I was told it was this.
