Top Gear seem to like the 2.0 TDi FR

Read the evo mag issue 184 which also had the TDi 184 FR in there. They thought, that the 1.4 TSI engine suits the chassis better and because its lighter it will be more nimble. evo also mentioned, that in slower corners the front wheels tend to struggle with the tourque on offer. But obviously that's down to road conditions as well.

This ofcourse is good news, as I've had my eyes on the 1.4 TSI anyway.

I've still not seen any official full road test reports of the 1.8 tsi FR yet.
I wonder how this will compare. It won't be as cheap to run as the 184 TDi or the 1.4 TSi but it will still be lighter than the 184 TDi yet will also have more power than the 1.4 TSi.

Does anyone know why there is no DSG option on this engine? It can't be torque reasons as my DSG copes nicely with the 315 ft/lb I have available.
I do wonder if its a VAG 'order' perhaps? Yes, Seat you can use the engine first, but if people want a DSG they will have to get the Golf GTD (and pay through the nose)

lets just hope top gear have one on there next series for stig to drive or one of them review

I see that Top Gear are going to have a new "reasonably priced car" for their next series, but they haven't revealed yet what it is going to be. I wonder....?

(They do say that car must be "something of adequate performance, but no more" which probably rules out the Leon.)

Is it the 7 speed DSG you've got now? The 6 speed was wet clutch and could take more torque.

Yeah i understand that as the 7 speed seems to go in petrol cars. My question was why the 184 isn't being offered with a DSG... A 6 speed (wet) is available that is capable. Seems odd that's all :)

Anyone know which 7-speed DSG is fitted to the 1.8TSi? If it's the DQ200 then it would appear to be right on the torque limit for this gearbox (250Nm). I see VW do a 7-speed DQ500 that can handle 500Nm. Could this be the one?
