Torque steer

Does anyone suffer from/feel that they suffer from excessive torque steer?

My LCR is stage 1 mapped, exhaust, etc. ~250bhp. This is the first powerful FWD car I've owned (previously 400bhp Evo 8 so no torque steer there!) but had experience with a MK2 Focus RS (parents car) and Type R's etc. which I found had minimal torque steer.

I just find that every time you stamp on the throttle in the lower gears it just goes nuts, really do have to watch what you're doing with the steering wheel otherwise it'll catch you out.

The front end is polybushed and had new ARB bushes and run Sport Contact 5's. Nothing is done suspension wise though but it has been 4-wheel aligned and camber 1 degree on the front.

Just wondering really if these cars are supposed to be a handful or if there's something wrong with it. Opinions?

Mine did before I got boost problems. I think it's normal for the car mate, it is a bit scary when you floor it and you hold on to the steering wheel trying to correct it lol

Mk2 focus rs has some fancy schmancy revo knuckle majiggy which helps torque steer and type r's don't really have a lot of torque to cause torque steer. Not knocking them, loved my atr.

Not sure about the cupra, mines standard engine wise so far but used to drive a mates stage 2 lcr and it didn't make itself obvious. Could the neg camber be making this more obvious?

Possibly it is just normal then. It's definitely a pain in the backside, I find it quite difficult to drive because of it at times...

Yea I guess the RS isn't a fair comparison, same for the Type R's with their lack of torque...

Well, it was fine when it was standard, but after the map and that it just became ridiculous. Camber is a possibility I guess.

Does anyone know if the likes of worn engine mounts or something can affect torque steer? Again though, might be just me being picky and not used to it.

I get crazy torque steer, on my stage 1. Coilys are on order so I'm hoping that will stiff it up even if just slightly. I think it could benefit from an alignment too.

There's an idea actually, I do find back of the car squats a lot on power so the front has a lot less weight over it. Maybe it's a factor, let us/me know if the suspension makes it any better :)

The alignment has been done after I did the polybushes. No pulling either way when driving, unless there's camber in the road then it of course follows it slightly.

I gave the car a quick check over yesterday checking for any play in the arms/track rods/balljoints/top mounts. Can't find anything obvious...

I sometimes get a clunk when changing gear, just as I put the clutch in and take it out of gear. It sounds just like a noisy linkage or a knock on an engine/gearbox mount rather than anything internal and doesn't do it all of the time. Could a dodgy gearbox mount cause torque steer possibly?

Tried the dogmount Bush?

I haven't no. Might be next on the list, although I don't suffer from any kind of wheel hop. The wheels either spin like crazy or just skitter along a little before catching grip.

I did some more searching around yesterday (via Google, maybe the search engine here on SCN isn't very good as Google brought up a ton of threads that didn't come up searching here) and it seems pretty common and just an issue to live with.

Guess I'm just not used to it

I'll be going today to get the alignment checked again though, it's free to check so may as well I guess eh.
