Hi,

I'm looking to get a map for this but am struggling, Most sites seem not to list the car and a few who do have said that they can;t actually do this model.

has anyone had this engine tuned and if so by who?

thx

your only option is a tuning box at the mo mate. nobody has cracked the ecu yet on these. just do a quick search in the forum as your not the first one with this problem lol

Just had the car down West Tuning in Thruxton who (after 10 minutes with the laptop plugged in) have confirmed they can do a custom map :D

Just got to find some time to get it to them - looks like probably end of next week. They've a dyno so include before/after graphs....

Unfortunately my Insurer's KGM won;t play ball with anything over a 10% increase and I get very little £££ back if I cancel to take a new policy elsewhere.

The policies due for renewal in September so I'll have to wait till then :(

For anyone else with the same engine I have found Steinbauer do a module which plugs into not only the injectors but also takes a reading from the Throttle position sensor and modifies the boost by plugging into the Boost Pressure sensor.

Details can be found here

Aren't most 1.6 CR TDI's putting out closer to 120BHP from stock anyway?

I saw on another forum a guy with a Golf 1.6 CR TDI 105 that had been tested on a rolling road and it was around 120BHP.

No way, Rolling roaded one standard only 5k on the clock though gave 100bhp, they do get stronger as the miles increase but 120bhp very optimistic.;)

I've never driven anything faster, but I do think my dad's 1.7 CDTI 100HP Astra feels faster, though I think it's maybe just smoother at delivering the power. I find the 1.6TDI can be a bit laggy especially in the lower gears.

That's an interesting comparison. My 'other car' is a Civic 2.2 iCDTi Type S which has a stated 140BHP, thus making it (a lot) quicker, but the delivery is smooth and more constant than the Ibiza. I guess the Honda is heavier too.

Before buying the Honda, I tried a Jetta (S?) with the 2.0 diesel and quite frankly found it somewhat unnerving to drive due to the lag. On pulling away or into a gap, there seemed to be "nothing", "nothing", "nothing" then "here it all is", by which time you were having second thoughts about the size of the gap you'd aimed for.
I was led to believe it's due to the Honda turbo having a variable nozzle system that allows it to spin up more quickly, something the VW didn't have. The VW salesman suggested the 1.9 Jetta would be more suitable as it had a lower power output (!).

The upshot is that the Honda is easier to punt along lanes or motorways as the delivery is always straight there, the Ibiza you need to pay more attention to keeping the engine on boost before the event. Perhaps the Astra system has a similar balance?
