Hi all :)

Had my mk1 cupra r a couple of weeks now. Haven't been using it much to be honest as it's mainly tucked up at work in the dry!
I bought it knowing there was a water leak, hoping it was the door membranes.
I removed all the door cards and the only door leaking was the drivers side, which I then sealed.
The carpets were soaked so I removed the carpets and the sound deadening... And wow, so much water.
Still got water leaks coming into the car.

1. Passenger side front and rear footwells have puddles in.

2. Rear offside footwell has a puddle and along the seal by where the plastics go.

Right, the first leak has led me up the garden path, I replaced the pollen filter housing seal and sealed the grommet up nearby. Still leaks. But, this is what I have found:

Seems to me like the bulkhead has cracked. Seems like a pretty big job, so... Has anyone else had this issue with it cracking on this side? As I know the drivers side is common to crack.
I have some seam sealer at work but it's in a very tight area so would anyone recommend a easier fix?

My second leak, with the plastic C pillar trims on, the water was leaking into the rear offside footwell. I removed them to see where the water was coming from, and I found this:

Right, so to try and cure it I have sealed the wiring grommet up for the boot and also the plastic covers by the hinges I have cut some holes in so the water flows out quite nicely.... And it still leaks.
I'm thinking maybe it's a cracked seam seal OR the hinges? I have had the boot open and hosed each part down and no leaks, with the boot shut... It leaks.
My headlining isn't wet and the area is so restricted you can't really see anything.
Anyone else had this issue?

It's doing my head in now, I just want to enjoy the car for what it is but having no luck yet.
As you can imagine the car is gutted at the moment.

Any advice would be great help.

Thank you :)

try removing the plastic gutter strips and examine the seal in the gutter carefully ........... particularly where the roof rack attachment brackets are located and the termination of the gutter at the boot end . If people overload a roof rack those seams can develope a leak.

Cant make out the location of the front pictures ......... could you post a couple of pull back shots so I can get the geography right ?

Cheers mate I will check this tomorrow!

Basically it's just by the pollen filter housing but in the far right hand corner as your looking at it.
Can't wait to get it sorted and back together to enjoy it :)

Very late to the party here but hopefully this info will help out new owners suffering water ingress

Mine was also leaking into the NSF footwell via this seam up underneath where the bonnet hinges are mounted. Though mine wasn't cracked it was more the seam sealer was missing or had opened up. A good cleaning up there with brake cleaner and a rag on a screwdriver then a decent amount of tiger seal has fixed it.

While I was at it i removed the unused bonnet cable grommet near the pollen filter and replaced with a flat 18mm blanking grommet, then, again tiger sealed over the entire area so water can't collect on top of it

I also found I had water ingress from poorly replaced yellow clips that hold the windscreen trims on. They'd been broken by I guess whoever replaced the windscreen but rather than fit new clips, had tried to glue them back on. This was allowing water to trickle into the A posts via the mounting holes but only after a good 20mins of running the hose over the Apost and roof area

lancashire.
worth checking the boot hinge covers even if your not having issues , remove and clean , refit back with plastic push clips and use under seal on back covers works a treat as it sets to a point and stays flexible the old stuff seemed same also, as if they leak it comes in direct to roof lining, only did mine as one was loose , did both glad i did
