i've had this tyre inflator for a few years now and it's always served me well. my most recent sent of fronts (3rd or 4th set since i bought the car) started to wear on the outer edges. i was confused as the pressures were showing okay (so i ruled out under-inflation) so i started to think the issue maybe lay elsewhere e.g. tracking/alignment or steering component problem. however the tyres looked low pressure wise.
so i bought this pressure reader from halfords and was shocked when it read something like 29.5 and 30.5 on my fronts, the michelin one was reading 33. i therefore inflated the tyres until they were reading 33 on the halfords device even though this now meant they were reading something like 35/36 on the inflator.
that was two weeks ago, checked them today and the michelin inflator was reading 34 whereas the halfords device was saying 31.5 for one and 32 for the other. so i've again inflated them so they read 33 on the halfords device even though the michelin inflator has to be set to 35/36 to get them to 33 ... if that makes sense?!?
i'm assuming the halfords device is correct (michelin inflator is giving a false high reading e.g. saying they're 33 when they're maybe 31 or 30), would you agree? regardless of what one is actually accurate, it's quite a big discrepancy between the devices.
