Upgrading 2008 Leon Radio To RCD 510?

Hi all.

I'm a new convert to these cars and loving it!
However, I am trying to find out if it's possible and how to upgrade normal Seat MP3 Radio/CD to the newer VW RCD 510 on the 2008 FR 2.0 TDCI 170? Can you get the surround trim to match the dash and the radio like the newer models? Is the wiring behind plug and play?

Do I need to adapt the quadlock.

You will need to get the system coded in, the installation is straight forward!!

Yes you can get the surround from seat! They are about £8 from seat!!

Thanks for replying.

I've been to three main seat dealers and they haven't s clue what I'm on about!
How do I get it coded in? I really want to get rid of the standard radio! Ha ha!
Is it normal to be not working at all before being programmed in?

These sterio's look awesome. Im looking at getting another seat, but wanted the later 2009 model for the new interior, but I think one of these would convince me to get an older car, and stick one of these in....

Are they a good system? iPhone Bluetooth compatable?

I'm not thick but how could someone code the radio without having it with them?
I wish I could get why it didnt switch on after plugging in. I have the radio code as its new.

Don't worry about age!!
I have a 2011 Leon and the only thing I have found is you need the VW version to get it to work seamlessly with the newer models!!

My RNS510 system works perfectly!!

Granted you have to be brave to cut your dash, but you do gain the use of a SD card slot on the VW version!!

I have gone from standard radio with no Bluetooth to rns510 with gps and phone Bluetooth integration!!

I think I have the same problem! I need to code my 08 Leon with a retro fitted rns 315 - how do I do this?! Based in Manchester!

you dont need to code rcd 510 you just need to feed a second live to the code pin. I think its pin 16. Then enter the code and the screen wil come on

Im also fitting an RCD510 to my 2007 Cupra to replace the standard radio. Following advice from the posts I have bought a Seat RCD510, dab antenna, the antenna split converter wire, aux cable and have a fascia to fit the RCD510 on order. I’ve plugged in the unit and the screen doesn’t come on but can hear the disc making noises. Where is best to source the power for number 16 pin? And also do I need to do some cutting at the back of the hole left by my old unit as I’ve tried to fit the new unit and it won’t go in far enough to be in the right position. Any help would be appreciated.
