Fan switch on rad. Pull it out should have a rubber O ring on it. Make sure clip is secure properly first.

Thankyou and is that when its drained? Probably a daft question being that its leaking but if i can save draining it and its just a sensor switch it would help immensly

The o ring comes with the clip when you buy a new sensor you might be able to buy these separate not sure. You really need to take it out and see why it’s leaking tho first tho.

Great thankyou. I may have a prob the plugs quiet stuck and apparently there is a place to put a small screwdriver a bit lile the coil plugs to unclip. Problem is its on the underside. If i undo the thread first for better reach im going to twist the loom will this be ok.

These plugs, maybe pour a kettle of hot water over that plug, then quickly force it in towards the thermal sensor and while keeping it forced in, try to press down on the retainer lug as hard as possible and pull it out. Pressing it in hard initially will relieve some of the load on the retainer wedge caused by the sealing washer. That sensor sealing point, across the VW Group fleet of all ages, has been the source of leaks, have you tried slightly tightening that thermal sensor as a first crack at sorting this - again pour a kettle of hot water over that area first to clean it up and soften the O-ring seal before trying to tighten it a bit.
If you do need to replace this sensor complete with its O-ring seal, try to get organised and quickly swop sensors over to minimum coolant loss, making sure that you use a 50% mix to top the coolant back up to its correct level.

Thankyou for all your help its been realy appreciated. My son got the plug off and when i had the socket in use the sensor wasn't in tight but im glad i took it out and changed it as it had no washer.
Now i look at the new fitted one the washer is very visable.
My engine light is on for a 02 sensor code bank 1. it started 2 days ago so niw on to the next job.?
