What coolant to use?

Got a 1999 Toledo 2.3 v5 and want to top up the coolant but the book says that I should go to a Seat Dealer and get it topped up with the G12 specific coolant. Is this correct or can I go into Halfords and pick up any old coolant. Your help would be appreciated. Cheers.

I would think aslong as its G12 you can use any brand, I had a thick brown gunge in my coolant bottle because previous owner didn't use the correct stuff.
Have a search for 'gunk in coolant, help please!' and it should bring my old thread up to see what non G12 does.

The above is correct, but be aware that the previous owner (if there has been one) may have drained the G12 coolant and replaced it with standard coolant, in which case adding G12 is not what you want to do. Look at the colour of the coolant already in there, and if it's pink then you're probably still running standard coolant. It it's green or orange (or brown) then it will need flushing and refilling.
