What grade of oil to use?

Decided that i would change the oil in the ibiza today, went to get the bits from Halfrauds, looked in their chart and it says 5w30. Looked on the shelf, and there was only one make, mobil (i think) which was around £44 for 4 litres .
It also said to use fully sinthertic oil only, would it not be better to use a semi synthetic oil?

Also in the owners handbook, it gives some strange codes which are
Multigrade synthetic oils VW 500 00
Brand multigrade oils with specification VW 501 01 or as specification API-SJ OR A3.
Which i havent got a clue what it means

have a check but I think you will need more than 4l with a new filter to fill too

In the book it said for the quantity 3.5-4l. dont know if that included the filter too
