I have a slightly poorly cupra TDI,
Rear axle bushes gone
Both CV boots gone
Both wish bones gone
Clutch slipping
155500 miles on clock
Now as my old Tdi cams went at 167000 that's always on my mind!
Both always fully serviced every 6k.
Throw it or fix it?

What's the rest of the car like, how's the bodywork and would these repairs entail the help of garage or can you cut labour costs by doing the work yourself?

Hi bud, no rust, clean body few scratches here and there but nothing extensive.
Just stuck now as I've spent plenty already, 4x new tyres, new discs pads and calipers all round, new battery, new windscreen, used rear silencer.
I know what your all gonna say but I have everything part from the rear bushes here.
Both bottom arms, sach clutch and flywheel used 1000 miles on it, and both CV boots, yep I could fit them all myself but I'm flat out at work (NHS). I know I'm confused as well, just stressed I suppose.

Depends. Do you love the car? Do as much of the work yourself as you can. Shouldn’t be too bad then

I love the MK1 Leon's as much so I can't find any other car I'd rather have(in that price bracket).
I replaced my wife's Altea clutch 5 speed but took 7hrs...sooooo could do my clutch (don't know if 6speed is harder)
Wish bones I could do but rear bushes and cvs look a sh1t.

Or do them at the same time as the clutch?

They dont ALL do camshafts either.
Mine had 180k+ on it and was fine.
Just to add, it was remapped and driven like it was stolen.........

...regularly

You’ve done a lot of the problem jobs so Sounds like you’re fine with the spannering, garage labour costs are likely the death of these cars so keep it and do it up over time.

What’s the alternative, another one with 12 months mot on it? Could be worse than yours.

Hopefully you can lay it up until we are back to normal.

Thank you for looking after us, if your in the Midlands I’d be happy to come and lend a hand when we can, least I can do.

If it wasn't for the clutch you'd probably fix it without thinking.
You've done well getting it that far though. Mine went at 80k!

Pay someone to fit it then, seeing as you've already got the parts it makes no sense to abandon it now.

I agree with the above.
I loved my diesel cupra and still miss it.
Although ive got the 1.8t now, it doesn't have the low down punch my tdi had.

Yours is still a great looking car and id be happy to own that.
