Hi guys and gals,

I was cleaning my windscreen a little too vigourously on my Altea and managed to knock off the rain/headlight sensor and now it wont stay on. Anybody any idea on how to get it to stay in place? I am looking at the stickers which hold on the rear view morrow on Ebay, but don't like the fact that they are black, plus the original pad seems quite thick in comparison, so not sure whether it would work.

Should I be pulling off the plastic internal trim and pushing & holding the sensor to the glass, or should I be steering well clear and by pressing the trim that should suffice?

I've asked David at Sere, but he has suggested asking someone like Autoglass.

Thanks,

Stephen

I think Dave might be right. When I had my windscreen replaced, the autoglass guy used a thick clear sticky pad to attach the sensor. It needs to be of the correct material (jelly-like) for the sensor to work correctly.

The closest I ever found on Ebay was a tube of sensor gel, but it was £19 and I wasn't sure it would actually work.

Speak to Autoglass (or even a smaller windscreen fitter) and see if they will sell you one of the pads.

I will get there as soon as I can to see if they can help.

Thanks for the reponse.

Ok, it took a while to get back on here....busy summer!

Autoglass couldn't help and neither could the local VW or Seat dealers.

The sensor still hangs there and it's getting annoying to see it, however, following a truck yesterday gave me a decent chip on the windscreen (now my 3rd), so will try giving Autoglass a call and get them repaired and hope to get something sorted at the same time.

Hi all,
Just wanted to give an update on this problem.
The clear silicone pad which sits between the sensor and the screen isn't actually adhesive. It's just a means to transfer the data from the screen to the sensor (i.e. how much water is on the screen). The sensor is held on with some kind of glue/resin further up where the screen is black. I am still struggling to get any resolution.

I've been to Autoglass and also a local windscreen firm and they have both told me that this sensor is only possible to be attached with a replacement screen, anything else wont work. I've tried a two specialist glues now (Loctite 591, Auto Care) plus a 2 part glue from Halfords for fitting mirrors to the screen and none of them worked, although the Halfords one lasted overnight!

If anybody has any suggestions please get in touch. My wife is using the car now while working 100 miles away from home. She drives up Sunday evening and comes back on Friday night, so would really like this sorted to make it a more comfortable drive with the darkness and bad weather about to start.

Thanks.
