Wipers - odd behavior or normal?

Went out to fill the car up with fuel this afternoon as it was pouring down I had the wipers on.

Stopped at the petrol station, I just switched the car off (I didn't switch the wipers off), filled up then got back in the car and started it.

I drove away but the wipers didn't start working, I had to flick the stalk down and then up to get the wipers to work.

Is this normal or could there be a problem?

Normal.

They won’t start wiping straight away incase the windscreen is frozen etc. They will eventually wipe but I’ve usually just done it manually as it can take a few secs.

Sounds the same as mine. e.g. If I park mine vertical they take a few stalk wiggles to return. I guess it's all fly by wire and the computer is busy doing more important things.

Many thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

So it's basically a quirke of the car, like the dash lights dimming in daylight.

If it was an Alfa it would be called character!

Every car I've had with automatic wipers and rain sensor does this.
Never really bothered to investigate, but just assumed it was something I had to live with
