Wipers/washers don't work with bonnet up?

How dumb is this: Wipers/washers don't work with bonnet up? Then couldn't find fuse box? Or was it just me

The wipers are not supposed to work when the bonnet is open.

They don't work because of potential damage, it's a health and safety thing, there is an interlock switch on the bonnet, this switch is also used by the alarm.

@ /dev/null I would suggest your bonnet switch is faulty.

so what if it had failed the opposite way so it thought the bonnet was up?
woudl this prevent the wipers working when on the motorway doing 70mph? i hope not.

I hope not too but AFAIK all mk2 leons have a switch for the bonnet that disables the wipers when it's open.

If i remember correctly the MK5 golf was the same.

I am pretty sure the rear washer etc doesn't work with the boot open either.

Yup - the rear wiper/washer doesn't work with the boot open, nor does the reversing light I discovered this evening...!!

wipers will work if you go over 20mph but if not at stand still there is a fault with the bonnet switch

dont know about front the rear wipers def dont work with the boot open as i found whilst driving home the other night
